Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The primary goal of the Granville County Department of Social Services is to enhance the quality of life of our residents through programs and services that help the vulnerable, the aged, the young, the sick and the economically disadvantaged. This position is in the Adult Medicaid Program including Long Term Care/CAP and Special Assistance Program. The primary purpose of the Adult Medicaid and Long-Term Care/CAP program is to provide medical assistance to low-income individuals and families. The primary purpose of the Special Assistance program is to provide state supplemental cash benefits to eligible individuals.
Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of the Income Maintenance Caseworker III (IMC III)-Adult Medicaid is to determine eligibility for Adult Medicaid, Long Term Care/CAP, and Special Assistance based on factors such as income, family size, medical information, medical evaluations/health conditions, resources, deductible expenses, and needs. Interacts with client, agencies, and facilities to provide information about services provided or to gather needed information about client/recipient. The person in this position takes and processes applications, reviews cases for continuing eligibility, reacts to changes in situation as they are learned to determine the impact on continued eligibility. This employee responds to information from other sources and reports generated by automated matches and other sources to determine the effect on the case. This employee assumes responsibility for the resolution of complex problems where the consequence of their action can have a considerable effect on the client, and/or the agency. Other duties may be assigned to the worker when deemed necessary by the Supervisor. This person must be a proficient user of the North Carolina Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST) program.
Work Schedule: The normal work schedule is mostly Monday through Friday 8:30am-5pm, with some after hours and weekend work on occasion due to shelter duty, projects, and other departmental needs.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of income maintenance program assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.
- General knowledge of all income maintenance programs.
- Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of regulations, policies, and procedures of varying complexity.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
- Ability to instruct and evaluate the work of lower-level employees.
- Ability to train employees in new and existing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants.
- Ability to perform caseworker functions under and within structured time frames.
Required Minimum Education/Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- High School diploma
Preferred Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience determining eligibility for State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Childcare Subsidy, Child Support, or Energy Assistance Program).
- Two (2) years of program specific experience (Adult Medicaid Program)
