Primary Purpose:
The Mathematics Teacher/Elementary Instructional Coach will serve a dual role within the school district.
In this capacity, the position will be responsible for teaching students who require advanced mathematics beyond the current curriculum/grade level offered by the campus. Additionally, they will function as an elementary instructional coach, collaborating with teachers to enhance their effectiveness in delivering instruction aligned with curriculum standards and district goals. As a teacher, the primary objective is to provide students with engaging learning experiences that foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, while equipping them with the competencies and skills necessary for success in society. As an instructional coach, responsibilities include designing/facilitating professional development, supporting data-driven instructional decision-making, and assisting in curriculum development, all in alignment with district initiatives and the GCISD scorecard. Additionally, the coach will collaborate with campus administrators in areas such as data analysis, instructional accountability, and the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) processes to ensure instructional excellence and student achievement.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for teaching middle school mathematics to elementary-aged students, including gifted & talented 30 hours and such as
- Elementary grades 1 - 8: Mathematics
- Elementary teacher certificate 18 semester credit hours in mathematics
- Generalist, grades 4 - 8
- Mathematics, grades 4 - 8
- Minimum of 5 years of instructional experience Instructional Specialist/Coaching experience (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Current knowledge and application of educational research on best practices
- Deep understanding of the relationship of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
- Experience with curriculum development
- Ability to disaggregate and analyze student assessment data
- Thorough understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
- Thorough understanding of the Response to Intervention process
- Experience with facilitating quality staff development
- Evidence of campus/district leadership
- Ability to speak and write effectively, and establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents
- Knowledge of mathematics
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties as an Instructional Coach:
- Resource Provider – To expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction
- Data Coach – To ensure that student achievement data drives instructional discussions at the classroom and school level
- Instructional Specialist – To align instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students
- Curriculum Specialist – To design district curriculum and support its implementation
- Classroom Supporter – To increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction
- Learning Facilitator – To design collaborative, job-embedded, standards-based professional learning as well as provide summer professional development opportunities
- Mentor – To increase instructional skills of the novice teacher
- School Leader – To work collaboratively with the school’s formal leadership to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results
- Learner – To model continuous learning, to keep current, and to be a thought leader in the school
Instructional Strategies:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Student Growth and Development
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication:
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in and create staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
Travel:
This teaching position serves multiple campuses and will require daily travel.
