Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the custodial operation of the District, under the direction of the Facility Services Manager, maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operation excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive and functional. Establish cleaning schedules and procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
This position works 3:00 pm - 12:00 am
Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the basic principles of large plant or facility and custodial maintenance operations
Knowledge of equipment, chemicals, and materials used in cleaning processes
Ability to manage personnel up to 50 employees in multiple locations
Strong organizational, communication, written and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years experience in custodial or housekeeping skills
Five years experience maintaining a large plant or building preferred
Meet minimum physical requirements
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Oversee schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all assigned district facilities.
- Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate cleaning and repairs as needed.
- Direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events.
- Supervise summer custodial projects, including summer school programs.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy in the area of risk management.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Recommend replacement or repair of existing equipment.
- Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.
- Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
- Assist in training of custodial personnel
- Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (time cards, tardiness, and absenteeism)
- Maintain confidentiality
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff
- Regular and consistent attendance
- All other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the work of custodian’s district wide. Make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal. Deal sensitively and fairly with all employees and seek interpreter if needed.
Equipment Used:
Buffer, automatic scrubber, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, extractor, light truck or van.

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public; Maintain emotional control under stress.
