Job Title: Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all GCISD vehicles to ensure safety of students and employees.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Trade school, mechanical course, or equivalent highly desired
ASE or TASBT Master Certification: minimum three to five years in School Bus or HD Truck
including preferences in diesel, unleaded and propane engines, fleet software and diagnostics
Class B CDL with Bus Endorsement, S, P, and Air Brake Endorsements, with acceptable record
DOT Drug Testing and Physical Exam
3 years of vehicle maintenance experience is required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and interpret technical information
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Knowledge of Texas school bus specifications and all applicable statutes
Computer Skills – Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel
Knowledge of fleetvision and fuelmaster software preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Perform and track preventive maintenance and inspections
- Respond to emergencies including after hours situations
- Operate school buses and/or district vehicles; operate tools/equipment used in maintaining them
- Perform light, medium and heavy-duty diagnosis/repair/installation on unleaded, diesel, and propane engines:
Fuel and electrical systems
Suspension and steering
Drive train and transmission
Exhaust systems
Brakes
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
Welding
Body work/ fabrication

- Continually upgrade skills/knowledge by study and attending training
- Communicate in a clear and friendly manner with drivers, keeping them updated on repairs to their assigned vehicles and on best practices
- Maintain inventory of commonly used parts, tools, and first aid supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of materials and creating a safe and clean work environment
- Maintain parts inventory program
- Control repair, inventory, and labor costs
- Perform vehicle state inspections
- Oversee the ordering of parts and supplies and keep associated records.
- Attend and participate in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required
- Assess incidents, accidents, potential emergencies
- Perform functions of a school bus driver or monitor as a backup for routes and field trips
- Prepare reports as required by Supervisor
- Orient new school bus drivers in the features and functioning of assigned buses for the purpose of promoting proper use of buses and longevity of district fleet
- Meet regularly with Director of Transportation, supervisory staff, dispatchers and other district staff to insure their needs are met.
- Provide oversight for mechanic training and continuing education
- Provide vendor performance feedback
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure safe operating condition
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Use provided safety equipment at all times (respirator, eye protection, etc.)
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report to supervisor
- Handle fuel spills and other hazardous materials according to applicable laws and safety practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee shop personnel for the purpose of prioritizing project deadlines and ensuring optimal utilization of personnel
- Supervise assigned employees and assist in performing various human resources functions, including recommendation of employment, disciplinary action, performance appraisal and staff development.
- Procure fuel, oil, shop supplies, etc. for the purpose of making recommendations and ensuring availability of required items for the transportation department.
- Assist the director in writing specifications for new vehicles, assessing vehicles and capital equipment
- Report to the Director of Transportation for review of major maintenance projects or decisions.
- Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district's goals and objectives.

Acetylene torch; welder, A/C recovery/recharging machine
