Primary Purpose:

Maintain GCISD properties assuring students and staff a safe and healthy work environment. Under general supervision, performs general maintenance on athletic fields

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in athletic field maintenance or related craft

High School diploma or equivalent

Meet Minimum physical requirements

Able and willing to work overtime

Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and written

Must maintain Texas Driver License that meets GCISD standards

Must be able to pass the GCISD random drug test

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1.  Knowledge on how to lay out measurements for football, baseball, softball and soccer fields and operate line cutting and marking machine.
2. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
3. Working knowledge of power equipment that is used to work clay areas of baseball and softball fields.
4. General knowledge of heavy equipment. Perform any repairs needed for holes and wash out in play surfaces on football, baseball and softball fields with minimal instruction. 
5. Knowledge of how to apply top dressing, seed and fertilizer to athletic fields.
6. Promote and maintain safe working conditions. 
7. Ensure proper care, use and inventory of district vehicles, equipment and tools as assigned. 
8. Demonstrate the ability to accomplish work order documentation through all phases of accomplishment from initiation through completion. 
9. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned including but not limited to assisting with other grounds duties such as trimming, care for trees, shrubs, flower beds, collecting and disposing of leaves, dirt and refuse from district facilities.
10. Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision. 
11. Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
12. Maintain confidentiality.
13. Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff.
14. Assist in campus duty assignments as required.
15. Regular and consistent attendance.
16. All other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator, chain saw, artificial turf grooming machine and other lawn maintenance/landscaping equipment as required. Light truck or van.

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent district wide travel. Maintain emotional control under stress. Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with parents, staff, students, visitors, and the public. Work with frequent interruptions. Continuous standing.
