Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Automotive Technology Teacher to provide hands-on instruction in automotive repair and maintenance, preparing high school students for successful careers in the automotive industry. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, the ability to engage students in technical learning, and a commitment to guiding them toward earning industry-recognized certifications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development:
    • Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in automotive systems, including but not limited to engine performance, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and suspension.
    • Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state standards and industry requirements.
    • Integrate safety practices and protocols into all lessons.
  • Classroom and Lab Management:
    • Establish and enforce clear classroom and lab rules to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
    • Supervise students in classroom and lab settings to ensure adherence to safety standards and appropriate use of tools and equipment.
    • Implement consistent classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions and maximize learning time.
    • Promote a culture of professionalism, responsibility, and accountability in all student interactions.
    • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and records to monitor student progress and participation.
  • Student Preparation and Certification:
    • Prepare students for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Entry-Level Certification exams and other industry-recognized credentials.
    • Conduct diagnostic and repair projects to simulate real-world scenarios.
    • Mentor students in technical skills, problem-solving, and professional behaviors required in the automotive field.
  • Advisory Board and Industry Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain an advisory board comprised of industry professionals to guide program development and ensure curriculum relevance.
    • Collaborate with local automotive businesses, dealerships, and service centers to establish internships, job-shadowing opportunities, and employment pipelines.
    • Organize advisory board meetings at least twice a year to discuss program progress, updates, and community needs.
  • Program Maintenance and Development:
    • Maintain and manage tools, equipment, and lab spaces to ensure safe and effective learning environments.
    • Stay updated on emerging automotive technologies and integrate them into the curriculum.
    • Ensure compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements related to CTE programs.
  • Student Career Development:
    • Provide guidance on career pathways in the automotive industry.
    • Facilitate student participation in SkillsUSA or other competitive events to showcase skills and enhance resumes.
    • Support students in post-graduation planning, including employment or further education in the automotive field.
  • Positive and Nurturing Learning Environment:
  • Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that fosters inclusivity and respect among students.
  • Build positive relationships with students by encouraging their growth and celebrating their successes.
  • Provide consistent, constructive feedback to help students build confidence in their skills.
  • Act as a mentor and role model, promoting ethical behavior, teamwork, and a strong work ethic.
  • Address student needs with empathy, patience, and adaptability, ensuring all learners feel valued and capable of success.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of either a Technology Education 6-12 or Trade and Industry 6-12 teaching certification in Career and Technical Education or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Relevant work experience in the automotive industry, with ASE certifications preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong technical knowledge of automotive systems and repair processes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for working with high school students and preparing them for successful careers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or training in an automotive setting.
  • Familiarity with maintaining and repairing tools, equipment, and automotive technologies.
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as ASE, SkillsUSA, or similar.

Work Environment:
This position involves working in a classroom and fully equipped automotive lab environment. Regular interaction with students, faculty, industry partners, and community stakeholders is expected.
