GCISD is looking for a highly motivated teacher with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills for a highly competitive and growing Ag program. The Agriculture Science Teacher is expected to possess strong classroom and lab management skills and provide quality instruction in all areas of Agricultural Science. The teacher is expected to have experience in all areas of Agricultural LDE/CDE Contests; supervise agricultural experience projects for county and major stock shows; be willing to train Leadership Development Events teams and Career Development Events teams; attend FFA contests, Leadership camps, and Conventions when necessary; and serve as an additional FFA Advisor. Truck and trailers are shared with other teachers for school use. GCFFA program is VERY active with great student numbers. Our program is a 3 teacher department.

 

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in career and technical education subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned or be eligible for certification relating to relevant clusters and courses under Career & Technical Education
  • Demonstrated proficiency in subject area curriculum
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse group of students

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of career and technical education subject assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction and assigned CTE area
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to oversee student field experiences in career area assigned
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Student teaching, approved internship or 3 years of wage-earning experience in the area of certification

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Oversee career and technology training program in subject area
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person, distance, and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
  • Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteers(s) and oversee completion

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
  • Present a positive role model for students; support the mission of school district

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create an in-person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required

Communication

  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth/Development and Other

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of assigned SAE projects
