What you'll do :
The SBA Senior Credit Officer (SCO) will be responsible for the SBA credit underwriting management, risk decisioning and oversight in accordance with the SBA SOP and Grasshopper Bank's credit risk guidelines. This position will meet routinely with the Chief Credit Officer, Head of SBA and other bank executives as required to perform this SBA risk oversight and advise on SBA SOP eligibility and credit risk management. Grasshopper Bank's SBA Department will be responsible for all Government Guaranteed loans, ensuring due diligence of each loan has been met in accordance with the SBA SOP and complies with the bank's internal loan approval and all credit parameters for both internal and external underwriting due diligence.
The SBA SCO is responsible for SBA loan approvals, credit underwriting oversight, annual credit reviews and will help with all required regulatory agency audits to ensure credit quality of the SBA portfolio.
The SBA SCO will work with the Chief Credit Officer and Chief Risk Officer to oversee, monitor and report on all SBA regulatory compliance, SBA reporting, loan delinquencies, collections, credit reviews and loan grading processes.
Job Duties
- Manage the SBA department's overall credit underwriting to ensure strong credit quality and disciplined credit monitoring of the SBA portfolio is in accordance with the SBA SOP eligibility requirements to maintain the integrity of the guarantee and loan repayment or the portfolio.
- Oversee the full range of managerial duties for the credit review compliance, collections and credit analysis functions including adherence to policies and practices of the organization and applicable SBA regulatory agencies.
- Ensure disciplined credit underwriting practices to maintain strong credit quality and portfolio integrity.
- Establish and revise internal SBA credit guidelines as required per all SOP updates.
- Ensure that Bank policies, practices, regulations, SBA SOP documentation requirements are followed.
- Develop, implement and monitor reporting systems and methods to effectively track portfolio performance.
- Proactively monitor and manage credit to identify any deterioration in credit quality to minimize loss exposure of the portfolio.
- Ensure that a consistent collection effort is maintained.
- Provide enhanced portfolio monitoring for SBA construction multi-fund loans and any loan portfolio concentrations.
- Develop and maintain SBA loan grading processes to ensure that all loans are properly risk graded for the life of the loan.
- Inform the Bank CEO, Chief Credit Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Head of SBA in a timely manner of any existing and potential risk issues.
- Provide regular analysis of the adequacy of the allowance for loan losses in partnership with the CFO.
- Oversee the use of outside professional vendors in accordance with the Chief Credit Officer and Chief Risk Officer (i.e. closing attorneys, consultants, appraisers, environmental consultants, LSPs, etc.) as related to all aspects of SBA lending and risk management.
- Provide SBA credit portfolio updates on an accurate and timely basis to management.
- Provide SBA SOP credit guidance and support to all underwriting, closing and servicing staff.
- Manage all SBA agency and regulatory audit reviews to ensure satisfactory ratings or better taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Serve as liaison between the bank and all regulatory authorities in connection with all SBA audits and examinations. Research and respond to inquiries of state and federal examiners as well as internal and external auditors.
What you need :
Leadership Strengths - Strong understanding of SBA and ability to provide insight towards safely growing the Bank's SBA loan portfolio.
Education and / or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or a minimum of ten years of bank credit department experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior SBA senior credit experience is required.
