What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Assistant position at Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center?
The Kitchen Assistant / Cook assists the Food Service Manager with meal preparation, serving food, kitchen clean up, and inventory control. ***Must have Servsafe Food Handler Certification*** Grassroots will pay for the Food Protection Manager Certification if employee stays for atleast 6 months.
Schedule is 1week-Tuesday to Friday 2:30 to 7:30 pm
2nd week -Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 7:30 pm
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepares meals or reheats previously prepared meals according to Health Department regulations.
- Serves meals to residents following all health and kitchen safety requirements.
- Assists in maintaining a clean kitchen environment.
- Assists with inventory control.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Provide support to on-site meal volunteers.
- Accept donations from the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Agency-wide Responsibilities:
- Participates in supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings.
- Maintains good working relationships with co-workers and positively contributes to group morale.
- Completes all administrative duties including time sheets, leave requests, etc.
- Participates in special task forces, committees, or special projects as needed.
- Uses appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff.
- Interacts with staff, clients, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Serve Safe – Food Protection Manager certification current in the state of Maryland.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
- Food preparation experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work with meal volunteers.
- Ability to work with a diverse resident population.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Work Conditions:
- Requires standing for long periods of time.
- Holiday coverage may be required.
- Kitchen cleanup is required.
