We are looking for a dedicated and proven Manual Machinist to join our team in the Metal Shop specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality Pilates equipment.
Job Summary: This role involves the precision machining of components using manual mills and lathes to meet strict tolerances and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of traditional machining methods, advanced shop mathematics, and the ability to interpret engineering blueprints.
Key Responsibilities:
Set Up and Operation:
- Independently set up and operate manual mills and lathes to produce precision parts for Pilates equipment, adhering to strict quality standards.
- Select appropriate tooling and fixtures for each required job, setting up workpieces and tooling accurately for efficient production flow.
Machining:
- Machine components from various materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, to exact specifications as outlined in engineering blueprints and technical sketches.
- Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify dimensions and ensure all parts meet required tolerances.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to plan machining operations effectively.
General:
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
- Work closely with the Metal Shop and Assembly teams to ensure seamless integration of machined components into final Pilates equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following all safety protocols and operational guidelines.
Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of manual machining methods, shop practices, and procedures.
- Proficiency in advanced shop mathematics and precision measurement.
- Ability to machine parts to tight tolerances and fine finishes.
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 years of experience as a manual machinist, with a focus on mill and lathe operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or vocational training program is preferred.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds as needed and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, oils, and metal shavings.
- Experience working with specialized components for furniture or equipment manufacturing.
- Familiarity with machining for wood or upholstery applications is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- This position is based in our Metal Shop, where you will collaborate with other departments, including the Wood Shop, Upholstery Shop, and Assembly team, to produce top-quality Pilates equipment.
- The role may require standing for extended periods and working with various metal machinery and tools.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as required.
