TITLE: Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certification
REPORTS TO: Principal and Superintendent
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- To assist in the planning, organization, administration, and management of the school.
- Help maintain an orderly learning atmosphere and keep the principal fully informed of the school’s activities and problems.
- Serve as principal in the absence of the principal; assumes the duties of the principal in his/her absence or as assigned and responds to emergency calls.
- Participates in and supervised a variety of student activities and oversees the maintenance of standards concerning student discipline, health, safety, and general welfare including duties pertaining to suspensions and expulsions.
- Carry out a variety of administrative responsibilities, including supervision of student transportation, maintenance of buildings and facilities, cafeteria operations, and after-hours use of the facilities.
- Participates in the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and materials.
- Approve and order supplies, textbooks and equipment; participates in the selection of basic and supplemental texts and multimedia and other instructional or reference materials.
- Assist in the development and execution of school-based staff development and/or in-service training programs.
- Assist in developing the overall schedule of classes and also in development of individual student schedules when necessary.
- Assist in conducting safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Share with the principal the responsibility of coordinating transportation other than the daily bus routes to and from school.
- Assist in the evaluation of faculty and support staff.
- Make routine personnel assignments including securing, selecting, and assigning of substitute teachers.
- Reports and monitors student attendance and works with the DPP on investigative follow-up activities concerning truant students.
- Oversee the student compliance to the Student Code of Acceptable Behavior.
- Supervise school grounds and cafeteria.
- Serve with parent, faculty, student, and SBDM Council groups as requested.
- Work with the curriculum and related areas.
- Maintain communication and serve as liaison with parents and civic and community groups.
- Performs such record keeping functions as the Principal may direct.
- Participates in the preparation of a variety of reports, forms, and surveys.
- Update the Student Handbook and the Code of Acceptable Behavior each year.
- Enforce all School Board and school policies.
- Perform related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
