Position is for the 25-26 school year and serves 6 elementary locations.
TITLE: Media Librarian (Library Media Specialist)
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky Certification
REPORTS TO: Principal
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
MANAGEMENT
- Develops short and long-range goals which guide the development of the Library Media Center (LMC)
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of the LMC-selection, circulation, and scheduling.
- Plans and implements technologically advanced facility and program.
- Seeks and manages technology resources.
- Prepares and administers the LMC budget to reflect the needs of the entire school community.
- Evaluates LMC programs services, facilities and materials to ensure optimum use.
ORGANIZATION
- Helps with selection of, then trains and supervises clerks, student assistants and adult volunteers to perform duties efficiently, and helps in their evaluations.
- Selects materials and technology for the worn materials and updates weeded information.
- Coordinates and promotes digital learning and experiences.
- Builds and maintain expertise in a wide range of resources and technology.
- Withdraws obsolete and worn materials and updates weeded information.
- Classifies, catalogs, processes and organizes for circulation the educational materials and media for easy access.
- Establishes and follows procedures for maintenance and repair of all LMC materials.
- Assumes responsibility for inventory and maintenance of all LMC materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintains the LMC to be functional, attractive and orderly environment which encourages maximum use and established as active and positive learning environment.
- Manages student behavior in a constructive manner and helps students develop independent work habits.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all LMC materials, and instructs teachers and students on use.
- Arrange special book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the LMC patrons.
- Establish and maintain a system of accounting for library books, reference volumes, media and periodicals.
- Informs and involves teachers and other staff members, the Principal, and SBDM Council concerning new materials and other LMC acquisitions.
- Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of the LMC resources.
- Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers, students, staff and administration.
- Keeps LMC open extended hours to accommodate staff and student utilization.
- Exercises general supervision over the scheduling of audio-visual materials and equipment for classroom use.
- Instructs and assists teachers and students in the proper use and operation of equipment.
- Performs minor repairs and arranges for major repairs of equipment.
- Tapes television programs for teachers at their requests.
- Schedules requested teachers’ video for viewing on the in-house system.
- Maintains the LMC’s computer systems with periodic backups and updates.
- Maintains and manages the Accelerated Reader Program.
INSTRUCTION CONSULTANT
- Assists teachers and students in using information resources and incorporating information skills into classroom curriculum.
- Promotes maximum use of the LMC by establishing policies and procedures of flexible access by staff and students.
- Serves on committees involved with designing learning activities for students, curriculum revision and/or textbook adoption.
- Plans and/or participates in special projects or proposals.
- Plans cooperatively with teachers to integrate research and information retrieval skills.
- Help teachers develop instructional activities which stress whole language and interdisciplinary strategies.
PROFESSIONAL
- Provides professional development for staff.
- Provides access to professional materials and information for school staff.
- Adheres to established laws, policies, rules and regulations (including copyright laws).
- Submits accurate reports promptly.
- Participates in various professional organizations and activities which relate to LMC and technology (i.e. visits with other LMCs, continuing education courses, workshops, and conferences, presents at professional meetings).
- Promotes the Library Bill of Rights and Intellectual Freedom.
- Utilizes current research methods in area of technology, teaching, learning and information science and has a knowledge of learning styles.
- Provides access to all students equally regardless of race, gender and ability.
- Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics.
COMMUNICATION
- Promotes a positive relationship with students, staff and community.
- Publicizes the LMC programs, services and materials through newsletters, announcements and in other creative ways.
- Submits to administrations/SBDM and faculty, statistical reports which support LMC goals and programs.
- Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
