CLASS TITLE: NURSE REGISTERED II (BSN)
BASIC FUNCTION/SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functions in a Registered Nurse (RN) role as define by the Kentucky Board of Nursing Scope of Practice. Collaborates with the Health Services Nurse Practitioner (APRN). Provide health services as outlined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing scope of practice for RN’s and Advisory Opinion Statement on Roles of School Nurses in School Nursing Practice. Works with students, staff and families to support health and wellness in assigned work location(s).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & EVALUATION CRITERIA:
- Exercises proficiency in medical nursing knowledge and skills in pediatric, adolescent and adult health.
- Promotes wellness for students and staff. Follows district protocols for the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
- Provides training to staff, parents and students on health-related issues, medications, and emergency procedures.
- Attends student meetings including 504 and IEP meeting for which training will be provided.
- Provides nursing services including coordination of student care and keeps current on medical information as outlined by GCSD policy.
- Maintains current certification in BLS and first aid, including instructors’ certificate with the GCSD training center.
- Maintains records and documents all student and staff encounters in the district electronic health platform following nursing documentation standards; prepares necessary forms and reports according to program standards.
- Conducts health screenings: height, weight, vision, hearing and other health related assessments as needed and applicable to state regulations and school programs being implemented.
- Provides follow ups for student referrals related to abnormal hearing, vision or dental screenings.
- Administer and retain medication and perform medical treatment in accordance with the student’s medical providers orders within GCSD guidelines.
- Assesses students and develops a health care plan appropriate to the student’s needs, counseling with parent/guardian as needed to ensure resources available for care and documents in the student’s health record.
- Participates in district Medicaid billing
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising Nurse Practitioner, Superintendent and/or Director of Pupil Personnel.
- Completes all trainings and other compliance requirements as assigned and by the designated deadline
- Provides instruction in other health related programs and completes annual skills competency checks
- Regular, predictable performance is required for all performance responsibilities.
- Work independently with little direction, planning and organizing daily tasks while maintaining health and safety regulations.
- Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses as outlined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN).
- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This work is conducted in a school office setting. The position has both inside and outside environmental conditions, where protection from weather conditions is maintained while working inside. There are no protections from temperature changes or atmospheric conditions either inside or outside the work location.
This position requires the following physical activities rarely (up to 25% of the workweek): balancing, climbing, crawling and driving. The following physical activities are required occasionally (up to 50% of the workweek): bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing up to 50 lbs., reaching, standing and walking. Feeling, grasping, hearing and talking are required frequently (up to 75% of the workweek). Repetitive motions and visual acuity are required constantly (up to 100% of the workweek).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kentucky or license recognized by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) through the Nurse Licensure Compact
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited Registered Nurse program required.
- Two years Registered Nurse experience preferably in a clinical and/or office setting.
- Experience in Adult and pediatric/adolescent nursing
- Effective communication skills
