Position: Hypersonic Modeling & Simulation Engineer (Aerospace Engineer or similar)
Location: Huntsville, Alabama
Status: Full Time Exempt
Position Description:
Gray Analytics is seeking a Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer with experience in Hypersonic phenomenology applied to missile defense, software development including CI/CD Pipelines, InfraRed Scene Generation including Aero-optics, and experience leading highly technical teams.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for problem solving and innovation and the ability to determine schedule and tasking for a team of engineers. This position requires a person who can both determine a vision and execute it and has proven experience delivering successful software products. This position will support tasking at varying classification levels and will contribute to the overall software-in-the-loop capability to test emerging Hypersonic Kill Vehicle sensor concepts.
The candidate will support the customer locally in Huntsville, Alabama, with some limited support at test venue locations across the United States. Most of the work will be performed in a hybrid remote/office environment but will also include time in classified laboratories, integration laboratories, and hypersonic test facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a highly technical team of engineers developing a modular scene generation simulation suite
- Conduct trade studies evaluating design alternatives to inform Modeling & Simulation decisions to optimize performance including evaluating surrogate AI model candidates to achieve very high processing rates
- Use modern agile software development methods to design, develop, test, peer review, integrate, and analyze models and simulations.
- Establish CI/CD pipelines to drive automated software development and streamline software deployment and delivery processes.
- Collaborate with other functional teams to integrate capabilities within a scalable cloud computing environment
- Conduct design reviews, testing and integration activities
- Document and report progress, describe capabilities, produce program deliverables and training materials
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or similar field from an ABET accredited school is required. Salary Considerations will be based on technical qualifications and experience.
- 10 years in Modeling & Simulation development with demonstrable expertise in multiple programming languages including Python and Julia.
- Substantial experience with Aerodynamics, Aerothermal, and/or Aero-optics in Hypersonic flight environments
- Self-motivated, adaptable with a growth mindset
- Strong Communication Skills both written and verbal
- Ability to brief and provide demonstrations to company leadership, customers, and stakeholders
- Experience with modern digital collaboration and configuration management tools (e.g. TEAMS, Sharepoint, Jira, Confluence, Gitlab)
- High competence with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Knowledge of defense industry standards and practices (e.g., CCB, requirements management and traceability, document approval, configuration management)
- Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the North Alabama area.
Desired Qualifications:
- The following skills/abilities are desired:
- Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or similar
- High-Fidelity Modeling and Simulation experience with Aerodynamics, Aerothermal, and Aero-optics using Computational Fluid Dynamics for Hypersonic flight environments
- Real-Time Modeling and Simulation experience with threat signatures and flight environment effects for InfraRed Scene Generation
- Organizational skills to oversee development of development, test and analysis plans and schedules
- Technical skills to oversee modeling and simulation development, testing, integration, data reduction and performance analysis.
- Ability to communicate technical details, capabilities, benefits and status through drawings, models, descriptions, reports, briefings, live demonstrations, and training materials.
- Experience engaging in business development efforts including white papers, BAA/SBIR/STTR/Proposal responses
- Current US DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance
