What are the responsibilities and job description for the Architectural Designer position at Gray Builders?
The primary function of the Architectural Designer is to create drawings for both commercial and residential projects, with a primary focus on residential. The Architectural Designer will use a computer-aided design program. These drawings are an essential tool for our project team, so they must be very detailed, complete with building schedules, foundation plans, and materials. You will work alongside the project team throughout the life of the project, including preconstruction and construction. Our ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in drafting or engineering and is comfortable using computer-aided design software to communicate precise building information.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials
· Create detailed designs with computer-aided design software
· Prepare and review rough sketches and review them along with the team
· Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality
· Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards
· Proven work experience as a drafter or similar role
· Hands-on experience with computer-aided design software
· Following specifications and calculations to create technical drawings
· Preparing both rough sketches and detailed work
· Communication with team members and customers
· Familiarity with 3D modeling tools
· Working with residential customers and the pre-construction team to fully execute the pre-construction documents
· Meeting with current and potential clients to discuss the design requirements for new constructions, alterations, or repairs
· Obtain pricing for allowance purposes and work with the pre-construction team to submit for final pricing
· Must be able to communicate well and professionally, this role works directly with customers and potential customers
· Providing clients with suitable design recommendations based on factors such as budget, the building site, and recent trends
· Reworking and modifying designs based on comments and reviews from management and clients
· Ensuring all vital information and documentation is recorded and maintained
· Good math skills and ability to accurately measure
· This position requires you to submit for building and zoning permits when designs are complete prior to moving into construction
· Ability to meet deadlines and adhere to the preconstruction schedule

Physical Demands and Mental Requirements:
· This position involves work at a construction site where duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors
· Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines

· Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
· The employee is occasionally required to sit
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
· The ability to multi-task effectively and manage stress load appropriately
· Maintain valid PA drivers license
Work Environment:
· The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud
· Must be able to work in all indoor and outdoor conditions

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
