Job Summary/Description:
WILX-TV is looking for an Executive Producer. Candidates for this must display superior news judgment and strong editorial, promotional, and communication skills. Candidates should also have a proven track record overseeing breaking news and severe weather coverage on all platforms and understand how to OWN a big story. Must have experience working closely with on-air, production, and technical staff. Must engage in team building and implementing the News Director’s vision. Must be a flexible team player who can think on his/her feet and remain calm during high-pressure situations. The Executive Producer should be able to focus on details while achieving big-picture goals. Must be able to supervise, coach, and motivate staff in a positive manner.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for the content of all WILX newscasts and for the direct supervision of the producers and reporting staff to ensure we are serving our local communities by sharing relevant information to alert, protect, and empower our audiences.
• Manage newsroom and handle breaking news and severe weather situations to empower and grow our audiences.
• Review scripts, and web copy and provide feedback to encourage powerful storytelling.
• Collaborate with producers on story selection, graphic elements, showcasing, and pace and flow of news shows.
• Critique, instruct, and train all staff in proper writing, coverage, and production of newscasts.
• Planning and overseeing continuity into upcoming newscasts.
• Ensure that regular work schedules, activities, company rules, and policies are carried out.
• Must be able to produce daily newscasts as needed.
• Motivate staff and encourage “buy-in” for the station’s news brand, news strategies, and action plans.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Proven track record of creating compelling and engaging stories across multiple platforms
• Strong writing skills and a proven track record for getting results on initiatives
• Ability to perform well under pressure, experience managing breaking news, and meeting strict deadlines
• Ability to identify problems and provide solutions
• A strong commitment to journalistic standards and ethics
• Extraordinary people skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating
• Minimum of 3 years producing in a television news environment or equivalent
