Working independently and under the general supervision of the Safety Director, the Safety Engineer will comply with all construction and manufacturing standards while working closely with management and employees to ensure: Company is in compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations; The focus is on accident prevention; and Incidents/injuries are managed properly. This role requires handling of sensitive information with discretion.

This role requires handling of sensitive information with discretion.
Duties
- Conduct investigations of construction incidents, auto accidents, utility hits, injuries, thefts and liability claims. Arrange medical care if needed. Determine causes and identify preventive measures.
- Inspect jobsites, facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Participate in training employees on the company’s Safety Program and their respective responsibilities in carrying out the program to minimize hazardous conditions and accidents. Participate in required OSHA and MSHA training.
- Conduct new hire training on safety policies, confined space, fall protection, rigging, MOT and use of PPE.
- Act as company representative for compliance and reporting with applicable DOT, EPA, OSHA & MSHA agencies.
- Champion company’s proactive Safety Program and continually provide guidance and direction based on changes in federal, state and local legislation.
- Facilitate and guide company’s safety team.
- Knowledge of and ability to manage Miss Utility documentation and ticketing process.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses, injuries and accidents.
- Interpret safety regulations for others interested in construction safety, such as estimators, project managers, and insurance safety inspectors.
- Act as point of contact with sub-contractors to ensure their adherence to applicable safety regulations and requirements.
- Assist with Company DOT/CDL programs and drug-free workplace compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or formal education in Safety Management and/or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
- 5 years of progressive experience or education in Safety Management as it relates to street & road construction.
- Completion of OSHA 30 course and willingness to develop into OSHA Trainer.
- The ability to collaborate and effectively communicate internally with employees, co-workers, and leadership and externally with the management of vendors and resources.
- The ability to multi-task, set priorities and work independently.
- Comprehensive safety training certifications and previous construction industry work experience strongly desired. Job relocation is not available.
