Job Summary/Description:
WLOX is looking for a sports reporter and anchor who can connect with our local community and tell stories about teamwork, athleticism, and tomorrow's superstars. This person will research, shoot, write, edit and present stories and game highlights on air and online. You'll cover everything from local high schools, Mississippi colleges and universities, minor league baseball and hockey in Biloxi, and the NFL and NBA teams in nearby New Orleans.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Produce and anchor sports content on weekends, or weekdays as needed
- Write, shoot, edit stories for both TV and digital platforms
- Report live or work from the field as needed to cover important games and stories
- Work with other stations, networks, schools, coaches, and sports organizations to always have the latest sports information and highlights in our newscasts
- Manage tight deadlines and be able to make sound, split-second decisions during live broadcasts
- Participate in community events and make public appearances on behalf of the station as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- College degree is preferred
- Passion for covering local sports
- Ability to shoot and edit video
- Knowledge of proper use of social media in covering sports
- Ability to lift and carry equipment including tripod, camera and lights
- Ability to collaborate with other team members, but also work independently and under deadline
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
