The Recruitment and Outreach Specialist for the NOAA Grant program plays a crucial role in fostering student engagement and promoting educational pathways in natural resources and related fields. This position focuses on recruiting Native students, building relationships with tribal communities, and coordinating outreach efforts to support student enrollment, retention, and success. The specialist serves as a bridge between Grays Harbor College, tribal communities, and prospective students, ensuring culturally responsive outreach and recruitment strategies.
The Recruitment and Outreach Specialist position is full-time, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for events. This position is grant-funded and continued employment will be contingent on the availability of grant funds. Grays Harbor College has an excellent benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, primary and supplemental retirement programs and long-term disability insurance. Full-time employees will also receive 15.34 hours of vacation leave per month, 8 hours of sick leave per month and 4 personal leave days a year. Washington state also observes 11 paid holidays per year.

- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to engage Native students and promote NOAA Grant-supported programs.
- Conduct outreach to tribal communities, high schools, cultural centers, and other organizations to share program opportunities.
- Organize and participate in recruitment events, workshops, college fairs, and presentations on- and off-campus.
- Provide information and guidance to prospective students about enrollment, financial aid, and program requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with tribal education departments, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Grays Harbor College staff and faculty to create culturally relevant outreach materials and resources.
- Travel to tribal communities to strengthen partnerships and provide in-person support for recruitment and program promotion.
- Act as a liaison between Grays Harbor College and tribal entities to ensure alignment with community needs and program goals.
- Assist students with the application and enrollment processes, connecting them with resources such as financial aid and academic advising.
- Provide information about natural resource career pathways, internships, and field-based learning opportunities.
- Support students in navigating barriers to educational access by connecting them to appropriate campus and community resources.
- Monitor recruitment and retention data to assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Track recruitment and outreach activities, documenting participation and outcomes.
- Compile and analyze data on prospective students, recruitment events, and partnerships.
- Prepare reports for the NOAA Grant program to demonstrate progress toward recruitment goals.
- Develop promotional materials, including brochures, flyers, and social media content, to increase awareness of NOAA Grant opportunities.
- Engage in public speaking and presentations to promote Grays Harbor College and the NOAA Grant program.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure outreach aligns with college branding and messaging.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree and two years of relevant experience
- Experience in outreach, recruitment, or community engagement.
- Knowledge of Native cultures, communities, and social/educational resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data management tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Familiarity with student recruitment strategies and best practices.
- Valid WA state driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working with tribal communities or Native-serving organizations.
- Knowledge of natural resource career pathways and workforce development opportunities.
