Position Information
Temporary engineering intern positions are available during the 2025 summer months to provide assistance in various areas at the PUD.
Requirements
To qualify, students must be 18 years of age, be enrolled in an accredited engineering program or pre-engineering program at a recognized college or university. Preference is given to those enrolled in an Electrical Engineering (power emphasis) program.
A new application for student employment must be submitted each year. A student may work up to four (4) calendar months per year and a maximum of four (4) years.
Status : Temporary, Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Work Week and Hours : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm
Wage Ranges : 1st year : $25.40
2nd year : $25.91
3rd year : $26.42
4th year : $26.93

Student interns are not eligible for fringe benefits. Student employees will accrue Paid Sick Leave beginning at the start of employment in accordance with the District's Paid and Other Leave policy. By nature of the definition of an eligible position, membership in the Washington State Retirement System will not apply to student employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare work sketches and job packages for transformer replacements; pole replacements including checking wire span / sag, pole loading and guying; and primary distribution cable replacement including conduit and vault design.
Develop system status displays using data gathered from the District's SCADA system.
Assist with other design work in Transmission, Distribution, Substation, system protection and SCADA design.
Field check, gather and organize inventory and location data for system components, including padmount equipment, primary distribution cable, poles, transformers, services and meters.
Organize and optimize Engineering drawings, electronic files and other records.
Other miscellaneous design tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Working Conditions
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is generally performed in an office setting with extended periods of sitting. Fieldwork may involve driving long distances, working on various terrain and during various weather conditions. Individual may be exposed to hazards from obstacles associated with construction sites.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate personal computers and various equipment used in fieldwork. Occasional lifting and carrying cartons weighing up to thirty (30) pounds (non-essential). Frequent interaction with co-workers and customers is done via computer, telephone, and in person.
