 Science Hub Coordinator: 
Role:
Coordinates and oversees the Science Hub to provide assistance to students taking STEM related courses at all levels and to promote ongoing success in these courses. Instructs biology courses and/or labs at main but can include South Campus and dual credit/high school
locations. Assists the Biological and Physical Sciences department with the safe and efficient operation of Grayson College's science laboratories. Position may be required to work a non-traditional instructional schedule and perform in a variety of settings and formats, to include weekends and evenings as needed, online, and hybrids modalities.

Salary Range for this position is $41,634.94 to $62,452.42

 Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 
  • 25%  Teaches between 8-12 SCHS of biology courses during academic year (schedule to be determined by department chair and/or divisional dean); meets classes as assigned and provides assistance to students outside of class; works as a team member of the Biological and Physical Sciences Department.
  • 30%  Coordinates all tutoring operations of the Science Hub. Supervises part time staff and peer tutors in the Science Hub. Tracks student usage of the Science Hub and creates reports on usage as directed by the Department Chair and/or Dean of Academic and Workforce Instruction. Oversees the Science Hub budget and supplies; Supervises the department's work study students. Tutors all levels of biological science topics at Grayson College. Plans and implements workshops on topics related to student success in conjunction with Grayson College science faculty.  Assists with setup of laboratories for each week's activities; assists with the
    location, setup and take down of lab practicals; cleans and organizes the laboratories, stockrooms and prep rooms; operates and cares for lab equipment and instruments; assists in the maintenance of departmental inventories and assists in providing quotes, tracks orders, as well as tracks and schedules maintenance of equipment.

  • 10%  Contributes to the campus assessment process by measuring and reporting student learning outcomes as directed to meet THECB Core Objectives and SACSCOC requirements.
  • 5% Complies with the "faculty responsibilities" as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the College's Policy and Procedure Manual. Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair.

Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Experience: Six months to two years of experience in a laboratory and/or tutoring setting.  Previous successful experience teaching in a high school, university and/or community college.
  • Education: Master's degree or higher in biology or a master's degree and a minimum of 18 hours of graduate work in biology from an accredited college or university.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Other Skills: Good mathematical, written and oral skills. Knowledge of basic laboratory principles and practices. Willingness to stay current in science safety rules and regulations as well as teaching methodologies and introduce pedagogical innovations as needed for effective instruction.
  • Physical Requirements:  The work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of
    lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. Job requires minimal agility and dexterity.
  • Work Environment: Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory & industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty and noisy locations.  Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
