Corporate Claims is currently seeking a Reinsurance Claims Director to join the Reinsurance Claims department located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Open to full-time work from home for candidates living outside of greater Cincinnati. The job grade will be commensurate with the years of experience and skill level of the candidate hired.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Manages the ceded reinsurance portfolio of the company, supporting a majority of the specialty property and casualty divisions.
- Understands and conveys complex reinsurance treaty interactions to reinsurance groups and divisional management.
- Prepares and presents appropriate reports to senior executive leaders.
- Manages team of ceded reinsurance claims handlers, ensuring appropriate claims handling in accordance with applicable contract requirements, as well as industry and company customs and practice.
- Conveys complex claim information such as coverage decisions, claim outcomes, and exposure analysis to all appropriate parties, including executive management.
- Communicates reinsurance coverage positions.
- Produces reports highlighting large losses, reinsurance coverage, and critical issues for review.
- Ensures ceded reinsurance claim transactions are recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provides guidance, training and assistance to lower-level positions within the reinsurance claims team as well as to other functional areas.
- Acts as liaison between reinsurance claims team and other reinsurance focused groups, including Reinsurance Accounting.
- Directs pursuit of collections on complex reinsurance billings, including arbitrations and mediations as required.
- Adapts readily to shifting workloads and priorities.
- Builds positive working relationships across and within departments.
- Direct and assist with reinsurance projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Generally, 10 or more years of reinsurance claims experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft365 suite of products, specifically Excel.
- Strong understanding of reinsurance contracts with the ability to interpret, explain, and apply contract language to ceded losses.
- Comfort with presenting information to corporate executive level.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage and to prioritize concurrent assignments and responsibilities.
- Aptitude for utilizing technology and automation.
