Great American's Alternative Markets Division was formed in 1999. The division specializes in mono-line and/or multi-line primary admitted programs on either a traditional guaranteed cost (Elite Programs) or risk-sharing basis (Agency Captives & Group Captives). Alternative Markets supports both niche programs and generalist portfolios, subject a minimum controlled rollover of $3,000,000 or more.
Our Alternative Markets Division is looking for someone to work a hybrid role out of our downtown Cincinnati office. Successful candidates could have the opportunity to Cross-Train in our other claim lines of business, including Commercial Casualty, Auto, and Worker’s Compensation

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Assists in managing an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
- Assists in planning and conducting claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
- Learns to determine and negotiate appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority.
- Learns to authorize payments in accordance with assigned authority limit and ensures payments are made in a timely manner.
- Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
- Successfully completes all coursework/education as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Scope of Job/Qualifications: Typically participates in a formal training program for 6 months to a year. Works within narrowly defined limits and authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity and coordination. Demonstrates basic analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Develops knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures. Develops and maintains knowledge of industry laws and regulations. Develops ability to organize and prioritize caseloads, ensuring timely resolution of claims. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and participate in negotiations. Demonstrates ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Secure all required state Claims Adjuster licenses (an exam may be required) within six months.
