Our Fidelity / Crime Division provides fidelity & crime, kidnap & ransom and fine art policies throughout the U.S. and Canada for mercantile businesses including Fortune 500 public companies and private companies, financial institutions, and governmental entities. Coverages include employee dishonesty, forgery, theft, computer fraud and kidnap, ransom, and extortion coverage. These coverages are offered for diverse classes of business including specialized industries such as gaming, security guards, check cashers, armored car companies and program business.
We are currently searching for a Senior Underwriter for our Boston territory. The role of this position is to produce, underwrite and manage a profitable book of Fidelity / Crime business within an assigned territory of producers primarily located in MA and surrounding states. We are open to candidates located in CT, MA, ME, NH, or RI that can commute into Boston as needed for marketing appointments. Fully remote or hybrid depending on proximity to Great American office locations.
The Fidelity / Crime Division underwrites policies throughout the United States and Canada for mercantile businesses and financial institutions. Products include employee dishonesty, forgery, theft, computer fraud, fine art and kidnap, ransom, and extortion coverage. Tailored products and programs are also available. The Fidelity / Crime Division is headquartered in Windsor, Connecticut.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Has accountability for own risk selection / rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability (within scope of authority and per divisional objectives) decisions and those made by members of the team / unit.
- Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
- Ensures a high level of customer service.
- Oversees receipt and analysis of submissions and decisions of what terms to offer (policy limits, credit limits, deductibles, coverage options and conditions, work programs, etc.).
- Ensures business is priced in accordance with company guidelines.
- Enters, maintains, and monitors accounts using underwriting, analysis, and desktop systems.
- Orders and analyzes miscellaneous business reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, including credit checks, bank agreements, financial statements, and underwriting surveys.
- Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and may initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
- Ensures that effective business relationships with internal and external customers / coworkers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable business.
- Ensures adequate number of visits are conducted with producers and principals in order to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of divisional objectives.
- Serves as a technical expert in interpreting, explaining, and marketing products and services.
- May provide guidance and direction to associates and other functional areas. Acts as a senior resource for the local Underwriting Department.
- Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports to communicate this information.
- Must be open to day and overnight travel up to 20-25% of the time, to visit producers and Insureds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
