What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeper position at Great Bend Housing Authority?
POSITION PURPOSE: This part-time position contributes to the overall mission of the High Rise by being part of the maintenance crew. The Housekeeper participates in upgrading and cleaning the existing Housing Authority structures and property. Also assists Maintenance Manager with routine work orders and inspections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times.
- Clean all common areas of the High Rise including but not limited to the lobby, public restrooms, offices and all of 12th floor.
- Clean all apartments after the tenant has moved out. All rooms of the apartment are to be free of debris, carpet vacuumed and shampooed if needed. The stove and refrigerator are to be cleaned as well as windows, walls and fixtures.
- Reports to immediate supervisor any items requiring maintenance as well as any unusual or unsafe conditions.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks such as unstopping sinks, showers and commodes; paint walls and surfaces.
- Performs work orders as called in by tenants for repairs needed to units and/or building in a timely manner.
- On-call every third weekend to come onsite to monitor building functions and report any problems or unsafe conditions.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Executive Director.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager, who in turn reports to the Executive Director.
The Great Bend Housing Authority is responsible for providing and maintaining decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing to low-income persons. There are a total of 81 living units owned by the Great Bend Housing Authority which is located at 1101 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend Kansas.
The Housekeeper works under direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, and maintains interior and exterior cleaning and maintenance services to the High Rise units.
This position’s major work tasks areas are cleaning and painting.
Performance of this position can be measured, in part, by the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of work performed. More complex work should be reported to Maintenance Supervisor or Housing Authority Office to have done by contract.
Performance of this position is also measured by the public relations maintained with other employees and the public. The ease of communication with various requirements to clientele and the number of complaints received from customers about errors in service or discourtesy of staff members. Performance is also measured by the interior and exterior appearance of living units, equipment maintenance, and completion of work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
Work is normally reviewed according to agreed upon deadlines and the degree to which overall results are achieved. Challenges and problems inherent to this position include managing a large volume of work, which is very detailed in nature. Effective time management and enhanced communications with the Maintenance Manger are required to quickly and accurately relay necessary information. Working in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions throughout the day, ability to prioritize and complete daily tasks by the end of the assigned shift are conditions of this position.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Contributes to good public relations by ensuring timely and thorough responses to resident requests and reconditioning of living units.
- Ensures adequately maintained equipment is available by implementing procedures.
- Ensures all common areas are clean.
- Performs other duties within the Housing Authority as needed to ensure the overall success of the Housing Authority.
- Maintains a professional yet friendly atmosphere in the office and when representing the Housing Authority.
- Attends training seminars, classes and staff meetings as needed or required.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Good driving record.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of proper use of materials and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety equipment, procedures and work practices.
- Working knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance construction and repair.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Skilled in the use of cleaning equipment such as carpet shampooer and vacuum cleaner.
- Ability to make minor repairs.
- Ability to understand and communicate oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work harmoniously with other employees and to deal courteously with the public and staff.
- Ability to perform manual labor tasks under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to direct proper use of safety equipment, procedures and work practices.
- Ability to obtain a Kansas Drivers License within 90 days of employment.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.50 - $15.00 per hour
