Position DescriptionWe are currently seeking an experienced, engaging college counselor to join our team. College counselors report to the Director of Counseling and are responsible for managing their meeting schedule with clients. Pending client availability, it is expected that College Counselors have the capacity to work with a minimum of 7 students per graduating class. Counselors are asked to designate availability by graduation class and commit to guiding their clients through high school graduation. While we strive to provide consistent service across our team, there is a high level of autonomy in this role. We ask for exceptional integrity and professionalism from our staff with their commitments.This is a part-time position with excellent opportunities for growth (including full-time management roles); hours depend on client load and the scope of client work we receive. Most counseling sessions are held remotely; however, there is an expectation of in-person meeting availability if a client is within the counselors radius of travel. Counselors should expect to work during after-school and weekend hours to accommodate students academic and extracurricular schedules. Duties include, but are not limited to : brainstorming and editing essays, developing college lists, meeting with students and parents, reviewing transcripts, writing session reports, suggesting extracurricular and summer activities, and other projects as assigned, such as webinars and presentations.Job Requirements3-5 years of experience as a college counselor advising students in undergraduate or graduate business programs and / or university admissions officerAbility to counsel at least 7 clients per grade (9th-12th) annuallyAbility to manage students and parents through the entire college application processStrong knowledge of business degree structures, accreditation requirements, and career pathwaysFamiliarity with MBA, MS, and other graduate business programs, including specialized tracks (e.g., finance, marketing, data analytics)Familiarity with US colleges and universities (requirements, programs, the "feel" of the schools, size, location), as well as familiarity with niche opportunities and programs.Strong familiarity with application platforms, including (but not limited to) the Common Application, UC Application, and Cal State ApplySolid grasp of what universities are looking for in application components, such as extracurriculars, personal statements / essays, interviewsCreative ability to help students brainstorm for, outline, write, and edit dozens of college essaysExcellent grammar and writing skills, quick response times, and strong organizational / scheduling skillsAbility to proactively problem-solve and manage client concerns with ease, professionalism, and promptnessExtremely reliable, friendly, and confident and has a passion for supporting students on their college journeyAvailability after school and on weekendsPersonal computer / laptop and reliable internet service for virtual sessionsWillingness to display professional photo and bio on company websiteOur Ideal Candidate Will Have : More than 5 years experience as a high school college counselor, independent college counselor, and / or top 100 university admissions officerFamiliarity with scholarships and / or financial aid processes and opportunitiesAreas of specialization, such as visual and performing arts portfolio building, athletic recruitment, international universities, boarding schools, highly competitive undergraduate business programs, STEM programs, and graduate school admissions (particularly Business, Law, Medicine, etc.)A great sense of humor and ability to connect authentically with teenagersAdditional DetailsEligible employees can participate in certain benefits including but not limited to : 401k plan with company matchPaid sick timeTechnology stipendMedical, dental, and vision benefitsPaid trainingRegular professional development coursesOpportunities for growth and promotion to a full-time position
