Position : Treatment Specialist

Job Classification : Non-Exempt

Reports To : Treatment Coordinator

Supervises : State and Federal Residents, Jail Alternatives, Sanction Beds, and those on Transitional Living and Home Confinement.

Position Scope : 70 Staff and up to 250 Residents.

Position Summary :

The Great Falls Pre-Release Center is a non-profit Community Corrections worksite consisting of three Counseling campuses. The campuses are minimum security and residential in nature, housing closely screened and selected for program acceptance, adult male and female felon offenders during their structured transition program for re-entry into the community. The Centers also operate a Jail Alternative program for adult male / female clients and a Community Service program involving adjudicated males and females.

Responsible for providing re-entry services to residents of the Great Falls Pre-Release. Contact person and investigator for Prison Rape Elimination Act complaints, issues and processes. Coordinate all in Center activities of Community Volunteers.

Key Responsibilities and Duties :

1. Facilitate groups for pre-release center residents

2. Will assist the Treatment Coordinator to ensure that all Correctional Treatment Specialists are offering their groups in a timely manner so that the groups are available to all residents.

3. Facilitate groups for outside referrals, such as those from State and Federal probation, Federal, State and City Court, etc.

4. Provide ongoing evaluation and intervention of treatment program plans as necessary in support of case management staff.

5. Encourage insight for residents struggling with a variety of life issues, including criminal thinking, emotional regulation, addictions and / or mental health issues. Build positive group dynamics with awareness of the needs of each individual resident. Work individually with residents on therapy materials as need be.

6. Provide training to staff relating to policy development, program implementation, and procedural activities, etc.

7. Assist the Treatment Coordinator in the development and facilitation of development of expanding Center programing for Residents.

8. Coordinate activities of outside agency program presentations and educational development of Residents.

9. Maintain effective facilitation skill sets to help residents develop cognitive pro-social abilities.

10. Monitoring and evaluate all in center groups and / or classes for pre-release center residents and outside participants.

11. Develops or assist in development of program / treatment modalities or modifications to existing program delivery.

12. Provide policy and procedure training to all staff as directed by the Treatment Coordinator, Program Manager, or the Treatment Services Director.

13. Provide regular reporting to Treatment Coordinator on matters associated with treatment delivery and / or deficiencies.

14. Will become certified as a facilitator for groups.

15. Will attend the monthly staff meeting and may be asked to offer training and lead discussions at such meetings.

16. Participate in public relations activities as needed in an ongoing effort to educate the public regarding Great Falls Pre-Release Services.

17. Assist with preparing and distributing a monthly programming schedule.

18. Will be expected to work most evenings, either facilitating groups or observing others leading groups for the purpose of monitoring quality assurance of program efficacy in delivery.

19. Will be asked to meet with local Judges, County Commissioners, etc., in order to help provide the best possible service in order to help grow our educational program.

20. Stay abreast of the latest programming opportunities, with emphasis on evidence based practices.

21. Provide PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Liaison services. Train Great Falls Pre-Release staff upon hire and conduct PREA briefings for all new residents. Assist the PREA Coordinator with annual PREA staff training and PREA audits.

22. Compile information on PREA grievances and assist in internal investigations of PREA grievances. Keep current on PREA policies and regulations. Assure that the Great Falls Pre-Release is legally PREA compliant for the safety and care of all residents.

23. Will act as the Treatment Coordinator during that persons absence.

24. Perform additional duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications and Skills :

Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related field.

Two years experience performing assessments and facilitating educational groups preferred.

Three years experience in work involving general human services programs for adult public or two years experience in work involving human services programs for adult felons. Work experience in a residential facility is preferred as is experience in working with ex-offenders.

Problem-solving knowledge and time management skills

Effective verbal and written communication, and presentation and relationship development. Good organizational and time management skills.

Demonstrated ability in treatment program development in accordance with current evidenced based correctional practices and programs.

Must possess strong understanding in techniques of interpersonal relations with ability to establish, understand and be sensitive to resident needs. Must be able to work effectively with diverse personalities and be able to approach problems and situations in a non-threatening manner.

Effective verbal and written communication, good organizational and time management skills

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other agencies and the general public.

Maintain positive working relationship with local, state and federal agency representatives.

Knowledge and understanding of critical issues facing formerly incarcerated felons who are transitioning into the community. Understanding of effective re-entry services, agencies and therapy groups, both in the community and at the Great Falls Pre-Release that can positively impact the lives of the residents.

Must be able to provide residents with a positive role model through appropriate behavior, communication, appearance and demeanor. Skills and experience working with the incarcerated and in re-entry work. Able to lead others in the performance of assigned duties.

Ability to maintain professional working relationships with all Great Falls Pre-Release residents to provide them with practical and effective re-entry services. Maintain professional working relationships with Great Falls Pre-Release Volunteers. Maintain professional working relationships with all Great Falls Pre-Release staff and all other relevant local, state and federal officials and other community based agencies.

Uphold the legal requirements of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and communicate these requirements to both staff and residents. Maintain a mature and empathetic personality with effective communication skills both verbally and in writing, which upholds the dignity of all residents.

Ability to work individually and in group settings with residents, keeping a professional, approachable and understanding demeanor, mindful of the wide variety of cultural, social and personal backgrounds of the residents.
