Its goal is to support persistence and increase the college completion rate for low- and modest-income students across the six-county, bi-state service region and secure family-sustaining careers. The organization was designed to change thousands of individual lives and transform the region by preparing the local future workforce and contributing to the regional economy. The KC Scholars Scholarship Program awards traditional college scholarships to high school juniors, adult learner scholarships to adults 18 years and older, and college savings match awards to high school freshmen. The Great Jobs KC program provides tuition assistance to approved career training programs in high-demand industries such as construction, healthcare, information technology, logistics/warehousing, manufacturing, and service careers. With the support of Great Jobs KC, adults 17 and older can learn the skills needed in one year or less to secure a job with family-sustaining wages. Great Jobs KC supports all its Scholars throughout their college or job training and into their first year of employment.
About The Role
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Kansas City, MO
Remote: 2-5 days in office per month
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Salary: Annual salary based on experience

About The Role

Key Performance Indicators
- 80% of payables paid by the due date.
- Reconcile bank statements by the 7th business day
- Improve the average time for accounts payable cycle.
- Ensuring sufficient accounts payable documentation throughout the year and compiled for audit engagement planning and fieldwork.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for general accounting functions, including assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, account analysis and supporting the Chief Financial Officer in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Finance department.
- Review, reconcile, compile, track, and process accounting transactions involving invoices, credit cards, reimbursement reports, mileage reports and other similar items for approval.
- Communicate with vendors or internal staff on any discrepancies on expense request and verify accuracy in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide guidance on processes/procedures to other team members as needed.
- Reconcile bank statements at month end.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Assist in the process with accounts receivables transactions.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor process performance related to KPIs and metrics to identify potential opportunities for improvement.
- Accurately process and prepare 1099 forms for vendors
- Assist with audit conducted by third parties
- Possess good computer skills and demonstrate the ability to learn new computer functionality.
- Complete special projects including researching discrepancies and miscellaneous assignments as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (Business: Accounting, Finance, Management, etc.) preferred.
- 2 years of experience in a Staff Accountant position or a similar role
- QuickBooks experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point, and OneNote) and experience analyzing large volumes of data.
- Proficient 10-key data entry skills
- System experience with Ramp credit card, Salesforce, and Asana desired.
- Experience working in a paperless accounting environment
- Experience working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment that uses operating mechanisms with the ability to set and meet clear deadlines.
- Strong communication and customer service focus and skills.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized with effective communication skills, and ability to multi-task.
