- Triages patients effectively by following established guidelines. Documents patient problem, symptoms, and/or other information received and advise given and/or resolution to the problem/complaint. (25%)
- Facilitates and processes provider's orders (i.e. notification of test results, medication orders, or changes in treatment/medical care, calls in prescriptions, NST's, orders lab tests, diagnostic studies, or other tests/procedures) and assesses patient needs and participates in appropriate patient counseling and education according to established protocols/ guidelines. (20%)
- Performs intake of OB patients including assessment per ACOG standards and documentation of patient information on appropriate medical record forms. (20%)
- Schedules hospital surgeries and procedures per the surgery scheduling practice guideline. (15%)
- Explains, prepares and administers medication under the supervision of the provider and documents appropriately. Orders the medication and obtains authorization when applicable. (5%)
- Assists with office duties which may include tracking, obtaining and processing referrals, follow up appointment scheduling, and filing of reports/results. (5%)
- Uses effective public relations skills when interacting with patients and callers. (5%)
- Maintains and enhances professional growth through continuing education and review of recent literature to stay current with OB/GYN standards of patient care. (5%)
Marginal Job Duties
- Performs phlebotomy when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education: Graduate form an accredited professional nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice in the State of Michigan. Basic Life Support certification.
- Experience: Two years of obstetrical and gynecological nursing experience preferred. 1-2 years’ experience in an OB/GYN office preferred. Prior experience with triage protocols.
- Skills: Proficiency in all nursing care procedures within an OB/GYN office. Able to gather data, identify problems, document information clearly and follow through on processes and procedures.
- Interpersonal Skills: Able to communicate effectively with, and relate to, a diverse patient population in a professional and courteous manner. Able to function as a member of a health care team.
- Physical Effort: Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. frequently.
- Hours of Work: Full-time, flexible, and varied. Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Travel: Travel between sites. Travel for meetings and or conferences if scheduled. Reimbursement as outlined under GLBHC’s policy or usage of an GLBHC vehicle as appropriate.
