Position Summary :
The Controls Engineer supports instrumentation and controls systems for the companys manufacturing plants. This position troubleshoots, supports the development of process / system improvements and preventive and predictive maintenance development. The Controls Engineer monitors contractor performance, as needed, for new instrumentation or controls systems for the companys manufacturing plants.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to :
Troubleshoot and diagnose instrumentation and controls issues in industrial equipment and processes using experience, system knowledge and proper instruments appropriate to the voltages and currents encounteredObserve and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devicesRead and translate information found within building and process blueprints and one-line diagrams to install outlets, circuits, load centers and other forms of electrical equipmentUnderstand calibration procedures for process instruments, which measure temperature, pressure, flow, level and composition and process controlsTroubleshoot, maintain and update HMI applications using software, i.e., FTView ME / SE, iFix, WonderWare, Ignition, etc.Install, maintain and troubleshoot VFDs and servo drivesOperate diagnostic equipment including meters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, Thermograph imager, and process calibratorsDemonstrate equipment functions and features to front-line employeesRecord maintenance, repair, parts and materials used, and order new parts and materials as neededCommunicate effectively with operators, supervisors, mechanics and other plant team members to help facilitate the troubleshooting and repair processUse Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) in the execution of daily work activitiesDefine, design, develop, document, and support of systems, software and equipment used in control systems in all facets of manufacturingSupport the Total Manufacturing Process (TPM)Implement change to achieve the companys business goalsCommunicate to management all issues which may affect the operational capability of the plants processes and equipmentEnsure the safety needs are given a top priority in operations support and work execution, i.e., Arc Flash / Shock Hazard safety, confined space entry, LOTO, hazardous materials, hand tool safe use, etc.Perform tasks in a safe manner to achieve Quality, Service and Cost objectivesOther projects or duties as assignedQualifications :
Required Skills and Experience :
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Computer Science, Business or related field and 6 plus years of experience working on Automation and Controls Systems in an industrial / manufacturing environment or HS Diploma / GED and 9 plus years of experience working on Automation and Controls Systems in an industrial / manufacturing environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsProcess and continuous improvement mindsetStrong collaboration skillsStrong problem-solving skillsExperience with Good Manufacturing Practices in a manufacturing environmentExperience working in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlinesExperience using precision measuring equipmentProficiency in PLC and other controls systemsExperience with the following PLC platforms Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Modicon, Omron, Toshiba, etc.Ability to configure network servers and managed switches, etc.Ability to troubleshoot / maintain industrial networks including ethernet, DeviceNet, Data Highway ,Profibus, IOLink, etc.Proficient Microsoft office skills i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.Travel up to 10%This position must pass a post-offer background and drug testPreferred Skills and Experience :
Masters degreeFood and / or beverage industry experienceFood safety experienceISO, i.e., 22000, 9000, 14001, or other management system experienceLean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experienceChange management experiencePhysical Demands and Work Environment :
