Summer Schedule: Monday - Thursday, up to 34 hours per week
School Year Schedule: Flexible part-time hours may be available during the academic year
Pay Rate: $21.21 per hour

Summary: Help small public water systems inventory lead (Pb) and galvanized service lines to update lead service line maps for Ohio EPA, collect demographic data about residents who have lead service lines, and assist in educating residents about lead, cross connections and other potential private property plumbing hazards that can pose health risks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with small public water systems to identify and communicate with high-risk property owners to plan and schedule private property inspections of water service lines
- Perform inspections of drinking water service lines and water meters on private property to confirm the presence of lead and galvanized steel service lines. This will often include entry into the basements of homes and small businesses
- Survey property owners to capture other demographic data of interest to public health professionals and potential funding agencies.
- Operate mobile devices in the field to record data and photograph water service lines and meters.
- Safely drive up to 1-4 hours round trip to reach communities to complete field work.
- Assist in preparing customer education materials and communicate with residents during inspections about public health hazards associated with lead, backflow and cross connections.
- Directly communicate with water department staff to ask questions and keep them informed about the progress of inspections.
- Perform basic GIS and spreadsheet data-entry.
- Assist in preparing inspection reports, community asset inventories and lead service line map updates.
- Assist in field work for condition assessment projects, as needed.
Education
High school or GED and pursuing a college degree and completed one year of study. Prefer field of study in Environmental Health/Public Health, Community Development, Water/Sewer Utilities, Environmental Studies, Social Work, Public Administration, Geography, or related field of study.
Additional Requirements:'
- Initial and periodic Motor Vehicle Records checks maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
- Must have insured, dependable transportation available for daily use.
- Must submit to state and/or federal criminal checks.
- Must submit to initial drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to be reached by cellular phone during business hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly required to walk, sit stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, talk or hear and taste or smell, reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral and depth vision, and ability to adjust focus.
