The Opportunity : The Offshore Energy Marine Controls Systems Engineer is responsible for integration and technical support of electrical controls systems onboard the Subsea Rock Installation Vessel (SRIV), including the Mission Automation System (MAS), survey system, fall pipe controls, and Dynamic Positioning (DP) system. The utility scale Offshore Wind market in the US is expanding rapidly, to meet commitments from the States for renewable energy generation and carbon free energy solutions for the next decade and beyond.
The successful candidate will have excellent analytic skills to document and automate our subsea rock installation process into efficient, reliable, and safe control systems. The position will interface with the Company's Estimating, Production Engineering, Survey, and Operations groups to align ship system capabilities.
The Offshore Energy Marine Controls Systems Engineer will have knowledge of various controls systems. This will include PLC's, I / O controls modules, industrial PC workstations, automation systems, and data logging systems. Experience with DP / VMS equipment is a plus.
The position is based at GLDD Headquarters, in Houston.

Duties and Responsibilities range from controls / automation process specification to offshore operation support. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to :
- Integration of subsystems and their inputs by working with other disciplines and subcontractors into the MAS to control subsea rock installation equipment.
- Convert complex issues and operational needs for rock installation into technical specifications and draw up functional descriptions for the control systems.
- Analyze existing and new automation software and research, implement and test improvements through vendor management.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to meet design requirements of the automation system.
- Solve automation system issues either onboard the vessel or through remote support with on-board technicians.
- Work with OEM to maintain and improve the MAS software & hardware as needed.
- Supervise and attend automation and controls systems FAT's / commissioning as needed and document the same, will require some travel both domestic and international
- Assist and coordinate troubleshooting efforts with controls systems with SRIV crew, Fleet Engineering, and OEM support.
- Train crew and Project team members from the SRIV on the automation system using the simulator.
