The Opportunity:
Similar to a Port Engineer role, the Project Maintenance Superintendents shall oversee primary dredge and auxiliary vessel maintenance activities on projects to ensure their vessel’s planned and unplanned maintenance is executed effectively to maintain reliable operations. These positions shall also ensure vessel Flag State and Class Society compliance standards are kept and maintained in accordance with local and federal regulations for their assigned vessels. This position shall also be accountable for vessel adherence to technical documentation (i.e. drawings, manuals and certifications), as required. In coordination with Operational initiatives and Project needs, the Project Maintenance Superintendents shall be accountable for afloat engineering and maintenance personnel schedules to ensure safe and reliable operational statuses are maintained. This position reports directly to the Hydraulic Div. Maintenance Manager. This position requires travel and requires a work schedule of 2 weeks working at project sites (Monday through Friday) followed by 1 week working remote.
Responsibilities and functions include:
- Act as the Project Site Maintenance representative on primary dredge and support vessels.
- Audit through field inspections vessel adherence to planned maintenance requirements.
- Inspect vessel equipment and its documentation for conformance with technical and performance standards in coordination with vessel Chief Engineers.
- Recommend appropriate asset maintenance methodology changes to lessen unscheduled downtime events in coordination with vessel Chief Engineers.
- Develop Repair Schedules, maintain, and manage maintenance opportunities during planned and unplanned downtime events with internal and or external resources, as required.
- Manage afloat engineering and maintenance personnel work schedules and performance standards.
- Assist Shipyard Project Management team to effectively identify and plan for yard period work items and assist Dry Dock Team to complete yard periods on time and on budget.
- Monitor vessel costs vs budget and ensure correct account coding classifications for all maintenance related expenditures.
- Assist vessel personnel in maintaining required inventory levels.
- Participate in weekly Project RAM meetings for assigned vessels.
- Participate in Pre & Post Project Vessel Inspections to help identify damage or maintenance related issues.
Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or technical discipline or equivalent industry experience
- Valid TWIC Card
- Preferred: Marine Engineering, Chief Engineer experience
Other requirements:
- 10 years in positions of increasing responsibility in project management.
- Familiarity with numerous preventative maintenance systems is essential.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to calculate figures in amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Competent knowledge of basic Microsoft Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)/
- Valid driver's license and passport required. U.S. Coast Guard Marine license for deck or engine room watch standing responsibilities desired.
- Travel is required for this position and is paid for by the company.
