What are the responsibilities and job description for the Member Service Representative position at Great Lakes Energy?
Member Service Representative
Great Lakes Energy is looking for a Member Service Representative to support the call center, reception, and cashiering functions in our Newaygo office.
Who We Are
For over 85 years, we have powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. We serve over 128,000 meters as the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company.
We prioritize enriching the lives of our community members. We not only provide electric service, but we also provide reliable and robust fiber technology through Truestream, a communication solutions subsidiary of Great Lakes Energy.
We have almost 300 employees who are more than just colleagues - we're a close-knit family of diverse professionals united by a shared vision. Our collaborative environment encourages creativity, empowers growth, and fosters a sense of purpose in everything we do.
A Day in The Life of a Member Service Representative
You arrive at the office, coffee in hand, ready to tackle the day. The majority of your work is processing and resolving member contacts. This includes answering inquiries, handling service and transfer requests, and processing payments. You generate and process service orders, and you are responsible for providing members with product and program information. Whether it's explaining a new service or helping with an existing one, your goal is to ensure members have all the information they need.
During periods of widespread outage activity, you support the dispatch department by fielding power outage and quality calls. Your calm demeanor and efficient communication help manage the situation smoothly.
This position also includes some cashiering. You balance the cash drawer, prepare the daily cash sheet, and make bank deposits. Running end-of-day reports is also part of this routine. Finally, you provide assistance and backup for the front office, which involves greeting visitors and handling any immediate needs that arise.
With a sense of accomplishment, you close up and head home, ready to recharge for another productive day tomorrow.
Who You Are
You have a strong background in customer service, with the ability to handle inquiries, service requests, and payments efficiently and courteously. You don't mind phone time, and actually embrace less face-to-face communication. Your attention to detail is strong, with accuracy being of high importance to you. You are trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality, adhering to industry regulations. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and multitasking exhilarates you.
You have empathy and patience, making you able to understand and address member concerns with care and professionalism. We are all a team around here, so we are looking for a true team player: collaborative, willing to assist colleagues and providing backup support when needed. You remain calm and composed even when it might not be a natural response. You are reliable and have a strong work ethic, making sure to keep the needs of our members and your coworkers priority.
Your high school education and customer service experience are considered relatable from many different industries. We would love to see call center or utility experience, but any customer service experience may be considered for this entry-level role.
