DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing paraprofessional and technical duties in the preparation and maintenance of hospital anesthesia equipment and assisting medical staff in related procedures. This is a medical technical position involving the maintenance and service of anesthesia delivery systems, set up and handling of anesthesia and monitoring equipment and the inventory and maintenance of department supplies at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher level professional medical staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Prepares, maintains and services anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring equipment at regular intervals;
Assists departmental personnel with insertion of invasive monitoring by setting up monitors and preparing transducer;
Performs anesthesia room setup as required prior to induction of anesthesia;
Oversees all departmental supply ordering, inventory and stocking;
Cleans and stocks anesthesia carts for operating suites;
Assists medical staff as required;
Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, outside conferences and in-service training.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of anesthesia related equipment and monitoring; good knowledge of hospital procedures related to the anesthesia services; skill in the preparation and maintenance of anesthesia equipment; ability to read and interpret diagrams; ability to instruct others in equipment operation and maintenance procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions; good professional judgment; initiative; resourcefulness; good visual acuity; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:
- One (1) year of hospital experience in the preparation, maintenance and servicing of modern anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring equipment; or:
- Completion of a verifiable formal training program in the preparation and maintenance of modern anesthesia equipment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time requirements.
