DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assisting in the direction and supervision of activities in one or more sections of the Supply, Processing and Distribution Department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent assists in assigning and reviewing work performed in connection with the distribution of supplies. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an administrative or higher level para-professional staff member. Supervision is exercised over a number of S.P.D. employees. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Provides immediate supervision for SPD Aides performing light laboring tasks connected with the activities of a section of the SPD Department;
Supervises SPD employees and ensures their compliance with departmental policies and procedures;
Assists in formulating work schedules for SPD employees in assigned section or shift;
Ensures that garbage, reusable supplies and other related items are picked up on a regularly scheduled basis;
Acts as quality assurance maintenance person for assigned section or shift;
Makes recommendation to SPD supervisor relative to planning, coordination and implementation of policies and procedures;
Makes recommendations to SPD supervisor in relation to employee performance reviews;
Acts as initial point of contact between SPD and other hospital departments.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the supplies used throughout a hospital; working knowledge of the work flow of a hospital SPD department including the monorail system and pneumatic tube system; working knowledge of hospital organization and functions of the departments; ability to supervise and motivate SPD staff employees; ability to read; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; initiative; dependability; honesty; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of hospital experience, one (1) year of which was in a supply, process, and distribution environment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
