What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Crew Lead position at Great Lakes Loons?
Job Description:
The Grounds Crew Lead will work closely with the Head Groundskeeper to maintain Dow Diamond’s playing surface for all Great Lakes Loons home games as well as various other events.
Essential Functions:
- Mowing and edging of playing field; sodding as needed
- Clay and infield skin maintenance
- Cultural practices (such as: topdressing, aerating, verti-cutting)
- Small engine work
- Operating and repairing of irrigation system
- Applying fertilizer and other chemicals
- Tarp pulls
- Pregame setup
- Postgame cleanup
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to successfully communicate with the public, other employees and vendors
- Proven job reliability, diligence and dedication
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Must be flexible with working nights, weekends and holidays
- Other duties as deemed necessary or as directed
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Mechanical repair background
- Fertilizer and chemical application
- Lift 50 pounds
- Stand and walk for extended period of time
- Work long hours which include nights, weekends and holidays
Education and Training:
- Candidate must be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year turf management program or equivalent
Experience:
- Baseball background is preferred but not required
