Job Description
Great Lakes Security is seeking a dedicated and proactive School Resource Officer (SRO) to join our team. The SRO will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position requires a balance of safety and security duties, mentorship, and community engagement to foster a positive school climate.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety and Security: Monitor and ensure the safety of school premises, addressing any potential threats or emergencies promptly.
- Law Enforcement: Work with local law enforcement, providing information and assisting with investigations as required.
- Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students, fostering trust and open communication.
- Collaboration: Work closely with school administration, teachers, parents, and local law enforcement to address and resolve issues effectively.
- Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans and participate in drills to ensure preparedness.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Education, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous law enforcement experience required; experience working in a school environment or with youth is a plus.
- Certification: Valid state law enforcement certification; current or retired or military police, valid Michigan CLP, and ability to obtain any additional certifications as required.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.
- Other: Ability to pass a background check and drug screening; physical fitness to handle the demands of the role.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in a High school or youth-focused setting.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and school-related issues.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
