What are the responsibilities and job description for the Livestrong at the YMCA position at Great Miami Valley YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. To conduct a safe, effective and educational wellness class designed specifically for cancer survivors that accomplish the Great Miami Valley YMCA mission and goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct a safe and effective wellness class designed to improve muscular and cardiovascular strength, flexibility and range of motion, balance, coordination and self-esteem for cancer survivors
2. Build authentic relationships with the class participants and their support system, while also providing connections with other YMCA staff and members
3. Perform intake interview, and pre and post-program assessments of class participants while maintaining confidentiality of the obtained information
4. Understand the physical, mental and emotional limitations of each class participant due to cancer type, treatment or other medical complications and challenges
5. Develop individualized exercise program for each participant based upon intake interview, assessment and physical limitations
6. Work with other LIVESTRONG at the YMCA class instructors and the program manager to create a 12 week schedule, class content, and graduation event
7. Commit to participation in the 12 week session to maintain consistency for participants
8. Attend required LIVESTRONG at the YMCA staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.
9. Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to participants
10. Put the health and well-being of the class participant first in all aspects, providing exercise modifications for participant safety and success
11. Apply YMCA policy/procedures for emergency situations, including but not limited to accidents and fire alarms.
12. Wear appropriate and approved attire, therefore being easily identifiable by participants and members; one YMCA staff shirt is provided and additional shirts may be purchased
13. Secure, set-up and maintain equipment and facility as required for class
14. Begin and end class on time
15. Maintain accurate attendance, assessment and program data records
16. Maintain certification by attending CEC classes and submitting required updated paperwork to the YMCA of the USA and the Great Miami Valley YMCA.
17. Complete additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Director or Program Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR/ AED certification
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles
- YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise
- LIVESTRONG at the YMCA instructor certification and eLearnings
- 18 years of age or equivalent and least one year of experience preferred.
