Instructional Assistant(s)
Reports To: Great Oak Elementary Principal
Danvers Public Schools seeks Program Instructional Assistant(s) for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a full-time, benefited position.
Job Summary:
The Program Instructional Assistant position is a school year position with optional summer opportunities. Program Instructional Assistants work with all the students in a particular program, such as a Language Based Learning Program or a Learning Center. Program Instructional Assistants may work with students in grades 1-5 6-8, or 9-12 post secondary (age 18-22). Program Instructional Assistants primarily support students in the special education environment.
Job Description:
Provides support to entire class, or to students in 1:1, 1:2, or other designated ratio depending on the nature of the students’ abilities and learning needs
Provides general support for the classroom teacher(s)
Works with a small group or whole class of students to facilitate lessons and activities following the classroom teacher’s instructions
When applicable, supports the academic & social-emotional needs of both typical and special education students
Maintain student confidentiality
Support students during class time, during specialist subjects such as music, physical education, library, and/or technology, as needed.
Performs duties such as, but not limited to, arrival/dismissal, breakfast/lunch, and recess times
Secure car seats and/or wheelchairs or other such devices into transportation vehicles, as necessary
Provide classroom coverage when needed in accordance with qualifications and staffing plans
Hours as per contract Article 6; section 6-01 and scheduled at the discretion of the principal and superintendent
Carry out other assignments designated by the Principal
Provide academic support based on classroom assignments and curriculum based upon accommodations outlined in the student’s IEP or 504, including: Pre-teaching and re-teaching
Implementing behavioral/social support within the classroom, including attention, non-compliance, task completion, wandering, following rules and classroom expectations, facilitating positive experiences with peers, etc.
Reinforcing instructional practices developed by related service providers, i.e. Speech therapist, OT, PT, psychologist, etc.
Assist with standardized testing based upon accommodations
Assist with implementation of social emotional learning expectations
Develop materials based on specific instruction from the classroom teacher and/or Special Education teacher
Complete data collection related to academic functioning and/or social student performance that supports instruction
Share relevant information about learners with teachers and other school personnel as needed to facilitate problem solving, decision making, and program planning
Participate in team planning time and meetings, consultations, and/or professional development as required.
Assist in the development of portfolios for MCAS when appropriate
