POSITION: Dean of Students, Grades K-5
JOB DESCRIPTION: Collaborate with administration, teachers, and parents to ensure that all students are successful in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curriculum and mission.
Reports To: Academic Director and Executive Director
Hours: Full-Time
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education. Preference given to candidates that possess an Administrative/Principal License or that are enrolled or plan to enroll in an Educational Administration and Leadership Graduate program.
- A desire to teach using the Classical Education methods and the Trivium. (Experience in classical education is a plus, though not required.)
- Demonstrate loyalty to the school and its mission to cultivate intelligent, virtuous citizens.
- A commitment to school virtues: compassion, fortitude, gratitude, temperance, and wisdom.
- A willingness to work hard and maintain a positive, professional attitude and demeanor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report to and meet regularly with administration
- Assist in developing, implementing, promoting and enhancing a positive school climate and culture through the classical education model.
- Work with staff to develop programs- academic, social-emotional and physical, which support
- the needs of students.
- Review student progress data and oversee development of support plans to meet student’s
- academic, behavior or social/emotional needs.
- Monitor students who are at risk–report concerns to the Academic Director and Executive Director. Serve as a support person with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
- Attend IEP meetings as requested by the special education director as an administrative representative.
- Implement policy and procedure that maintains a safe, and optimal, learning environment for
- students and staff.
- Support and regularly check-in with students regarding academic, behavioral, and social issues.
- Collect and manage student data related to academic progress, attendance and behavior as
- requested by division principals.
- As requested by Directors, respond to and report on student issues and concerns.
- Provide behavioral support and intervention to classroom teachers and for the building in
- general. Conduct meetings with students, staff and parents regarding student behaviors and
- progress as needed. Assist in maintaining and logging behavior interventions and tracking data
- on discipline.
- Coordinate and oversee dress code violations, contact students and parents and log in student records.
- Assist operations and academic directors to oversee bus conduct reports, contact students and parents and log in student records.
- Assist in the management of student supervision issues.
- Helps supervise student classes as directed and serves as a substitute as needed for staff members.
- Keep abreast of current and innovative educational research as related to school mission and goals and share as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as directed.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND HIRING
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits offered for full-time employees include health benefits, sick days, paid holidays, and enrollment in the Minnesota Teachers Retirement Association. Children will receive enrollment priority if a parent is a full-time employee at the time of enrollment. All employees will be required to pass background checks.
SCHOOL BACKGROUND: We are committed to building a small school community with rigorous academics, an emphasis on developing virtue while encouraging students’ natural sense of wonder. We believe that great stories are powerful teaching tools, that studying history chronologically can inspire wonder and lead to virtue, and that rigor means appropriate challenges for each student.
Great Oaks Academy opened in the fall of 2020 and currently serves about 450 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. We will be adding a 9th grade in 2025-2026 and moving our Upper School (6-9th) to a new location in Eagan, MN. We will add a grade each year until we are a full K-12 Academy.
