Join our Great Parks team as a full-time Riding Instructor at the Winton Woods Farm & Equestrian Center. At Great Parks, our team members work together to preserve and protect natural resources and to provide outdoor recreation and education in order to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations.
This full-time position works various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This coordinates the Winton Woods Farm & Equestrian Center's equine activities including trail rides, events, summer camps and equestrian programming. Additionally, this position greets and serves guests, handles guest inquiries, and drives Farm vehicles. Standard practice allows employee to proceed alone on regular duties with questionable situations referred to supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Performs job duties in accordance with Great Parks’ policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Maintains confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information.
- Oversees Winton Woods Farm & Equestrian Center equestrian educational programming and riding activities. Duties include program recommendations, horse/rider pairing, instructor assignments & schedules, communication with participants, group and individual lessons.
- Assists in maintaining facilities and equipment. Works closely with the Animal Care Coordinator to ensure the humane care, safety and welfare of programming animals.
- Assists with purchasing equine supplies and services. Provides recommendations for the buying and selling of horses.
- Functionally supervises riding instructors. Assigns tasks, provides direction and ensures that work is performed in accordance with quality standards. Ensures employees are appropriately trained and develops training programs. Coordinates work performed by volunteers.
- Provides a safe and inclusive experience for park visitors. Assists in developing classes, programs and instruction curriculum. Ensures programming goals and objectives are met. Makes recommendations for changes or improvements.
- Develops and enforces equine safety and educational regulations and procedures.
- Leads the training and evaluation of horses for programming purposes.
- Teaches students the skill of horseback riding and evaluates individual performance. Oversees special riders programs and coordination with special needs service providers.
Qualifications
Any combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify the applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
- At least 18 years old and completion of high school education, with course work/experience in equestrian management and demonstrable skill in horseback riding.
- Great customer service experience preferred.
- Has ability to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in equestrian management and demonstrable skill in horseback riding.
- Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
LICENSE OF CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines.
