Job Description:
The Patient Registrar is responsible for interviewing the patient to collect required registration data and entering patient information into Hospital Information System. Obtains required signatures for hospital consents, HIPAA and Medicare documents. Answers telephone, updates computer records and directs patients as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Must be at least 17 years old and currently enrolled in high school or an equivalent educational program.
Credentials

GPH Required/Preferred: none
Work Environment
Shared office setting.
Exposure to noise.
Frequent use of computer, telephone, copier and scanner.
Physical Demands
Sit constantly.
Stand/walk frequently.
Lift floor to waist height 30 pounds occasionally; waist to waist 25 pounds occasionally; waist to overhead 20 pounds occasionally. And carry 10 pounds up to 25 feet occasionally.
Reach overhead frequently standing and turn reaching shoulder height while sitting frequently.
Fine motor coordination within normal limits for age and gender.
Constant computer use.
Visual acuity within normal limits.
Essential Functions
Maintains a thorough understanding of the Registration modules in the Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System in order to pre-register and register patients and well as being able to correct or update database to reflect changes in patient status, patient transfer, newborn admissions, and discharges. After six months of employment, maintains a minimum accuracy rate of at least 99%.
Ability to interpret insurance information and insurance cards.
Demonstrates proper use of software applications to carry out duties. This would include the chart repository, and order repository.
Ability to manage downtime procedures and re-initiation of Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System.
Ability to check patient insurance eligibility, though websites.
Ability to complete a patient financial screening, to facilitate patient's needs, and financial reimbursement.
Ability to work in all registration areas if needed.
