Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a 1 st Shift Maintenance Manager to join our team in Salina, KS. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the maintenance operations for 8 manufacturing facilities across Salina, KS.
This leadership role requires a skilled, results-driven individual to manage a team of multi-trade mechanics and ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all equipment and systems across the facilities. The Maintenance Manager will drive maintenance best practices, safety programs, leadership development, and continuous improvement in line with the organization’s operational goals. This role will involve the development of training programs, maintenance policies, and the management of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), as well as monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to support maintenance excellence.
This is a salaried role that reports to the Senior Manager for Manufacturing Strategic Initiatives. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an on-call rotation. Some evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a diverse team of multi-trade maintenance mechanics across 8 manufacturing facilities.
- Develop, implement, and sustain training programs that address the technical and safety skills of the maintenance staff.
- Ensure that training programs are in place for all trades, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safety procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout - LOTO).
- Coordinate and track ongoing development to enhance team performance and capabilities.
- Develop and implement maintenance policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for effective equipment care and troubleshooting.
- Establish best practices for equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions to improve plant uptime.
- Enforce and continuously update Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure employee safety and compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Oversee and manage the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring it is accurately updated and that work orders are processed efficiently.
- Ensure that asset histories, maintenance schedules, and downtime records are well-documented and available for analysis.
- Analyze CMMS data to identify trends and improvement opportunities in equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
- Define and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track maintenance performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Work closely with senior leadership to report on KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines, while balancing maintenance needs with cost control.
- Champion safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and environmental guidelines.
- Oversee and enforce regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to maintain a safe working environment for all staff.
- Develop and conduct safety training and drills, ensuring all team members are knowledgeable about safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to improve asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective action processes for major equipment failures or operational interruptions.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all facilities, encouraging staff to suggest and implement process improvements.
- Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or related field; 5 years of experience in maintenance management in a manufacturing or industrial setting; or a combination of education and experience.
- Proven track record for managing multi-trade maintenance teams, ideally in a complex, multi-facility environment.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing training programs, and driving safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge of maintenance management practices, preventive and corrective maintenance, and equipment reliability programs.
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP, Maximo, or similar) and their implementation for efficient maintenance tracking and management.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, management, and external vendors.
- In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations, LOTO standards, and industrial safety practices.
- Ability to develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop action plans to improve equipment reliability and overall maintenance performance.
- Experience working with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
- Experience managing maintenance operations across multiple locations or facilities.
- Ability to work in a plant environment with exposure to noise, heat, and heavy machinery.
- Occasional lifting and physical activity required.
- Ability to travel day to day between facilities as needed to support operations.
