Forklift Operator / Material Handler – 1st Shift - Salina, KS
Great Plains Mfg has an opening for a 1st Shift Forklift Operator / Material Handler in the Material Handling Department at the Salina Facility.
This position works Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime on Fridays as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately pick parts and materials from inventory based on work orders, production requirements, or customer requests.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Assemble and package kits of parts for specific projects or orders, ensuring all components are present and correct
- Perform a range of warehousing duties, including receiving, sorting, and storing materials in designated areas, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse
- Conduct regular inventory cycle counts to ensure stock accuracy and resolve discrepancies in the system
- Interface with other departments to ensure deadlines are met. Work closely with assembly lead and manager to ensure all parts are delivered to correct location in timely manner
- Operate industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Lift heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and clean work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators
- Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers
- Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Read work orders, follow oral instructions, visual management, or standard work to ascertain materials or containers to be moved or delivered to assembly.
- Follow all Great Plains policies and OSHA safety regulations and wears prescribed safety and protective equipment.
- Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Must have forklift license or ability to obtain one
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understand team concepts and be a strong team player
- Ability to use and understand AS400
- Ability to read prints and be able to use tape measure, calipers, etc. as required
