Position Summary

The Sleep Lab Tech (RPSGT) or (LRCP) is responsible for assuming responsibility and accountability for actions, which include, but are not limited to : Scoring all sleep studies, performing MSLT testing, performing day time sleep studies without CPAP, Educates patients on CPAP and BI-PAP machines, perform quality assurance checks. Makes sure that the lab meets all the accredited sleep lab requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Graduation of an approved training program. Approved Training Program means a respiratory therapy education program which is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care in collaboration with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Credentials

State required : State License required to practice Respiratory Care. (LRCP) Any person who wishes to practice respiratory care after January 1, 1987 must obtain a license. Licensure examination means the National Board for Respiratory Care Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) Examination approved by the Department on the recommendation of the Board. GPRMC Required / Preferred : Must be Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists if not an LRCP (RPSGT only). BLS required.

Preferred : ACLS preferred. (LRCP) to be Registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists but not required.

Physical Demands

Lift supplies 5 pounds waist level occasionally.

Carry supplies less than 5 pounds 10 feet occasionally.

Push and / or pull 20 pounds occasionally.

Reach supplies up to 5 pounds 6-8 inches from floor to overhead occasionally.

Bend occasionally.

Work under stressful conditions and / or work irregular hours frequently.

This position requires the ability to read and comprehend and retain information that can be applied to work procedures. The incumbent must possess the ability to work under stressful conditions and / or work irregular hours. It also requires the ability to communicate in writing, as well as verbally. The incumbent must have the ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.

Essential Functions

Coordinates scheduling of all tests and / or services utilizing current clinical guidelines.

Review's patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.

Applies recording devices to patient and independently performs and evaluates sleep studies, operates medical equipment and monitors sleep studies.

Identifies and corrects artifacts. Edits and forward results to interpreting physician for analysis and interpretation. Maintains patient data and enters it into patient EMR.

Independently recognizes and responds to sleep pathology with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. Review patient testing, interpreting and communicating results in a manner consistent with the age of the patient. Recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.

Generates reports of all clinical events, examines records and identifies normal / abnormal sleep patterns and stages.

Assists with cleaning, adjusting and performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Reports unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to Biomed, Engineering Department or director.

Maintains and stocks supplies for the department.

Actively participates in assigned meetings and hospital committees.
