Responsible for the collection and processing of laboratory specimens, registering patients, ordering laboratory tests, sorting and distributing laboratory reports, answering phones, specimen labeling, may transcribe recorded messages and practioner diagnosis and recommendations into patient medical records, may prepare consult send out cases, transporting samples between collection sites and the laboratory, may perform lab testing and specimen setup, may perform phlebotomy, must demonstrate absolute accuracy in patient identification, specimen labeling and have knowledge of test requirements as well as other duties related to department specific needs. Requires the ability to professionally portray the Laboratory's image by demonstrating pleasant and courteous mannerisms at all times.

What you will do
- Responsible for collecting blood or other laboratory specimens, registering patients, ordering laboratory tests, sorting and distributing laboratory reports, answering phone calls and evaluating the importance of the calls then directing the calls to the appropriate staff, specimen labeling, transporting samples between collection sites and the laboratory.
- Explain blood or laboratory specimen collection procedures to patients and must be able to demonstrate absolute accuracy in patient identification, specimen labeling and have knowledge of test requirements.
- Set up specimens and may perform waived laboratory testing.
- Process, package, and prepare laboratory specimens and/or consult send out cases for reference laboratories. May be responsible for monitoring referral laboratory completion.
- Receive, transcribe recorded messages with practioner diagnosis and recommendations in patient medical records, route messages and documents such as laboratory results to appropriate locations ensuring documentation is completed according to department policies and procedures. Also, transmits correspondence and medical records via the pneumatic tube system, mail, email, or fax.
- Clean the work area and maintain area by performing maintenance and cleaning on ancillary laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, refrigerators and freezers as well as keep all necessary inventory ordered and stocked for the area and required for job duties.
- Reconciles billing utilizing interdepartmental collaboration.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required and
- Medical terminology Preferred
- Clinical experience in a hospital setting Preferred
- Phlebotomy experience Preferred
- Working knowledge of Word and Excel Software
- Computer classes/experience
- Certified Medical Assistant Preferred or
- Licensed Practical Nurse Preferred
