Position Title: Associate Mental Health Clinician
Reports To: Coordinator of School Based Mental Health Services
Salary Range: Hourly Scale Hours: 35 hours per week
Calendar/Work Days: Academic Calendar (190 days - 11 months)
Classification & FLSA Status: Classified Non-Exempt
Qualifications and Requirements:
- DOJ Live Scan Clearance
- Tuberculosis Clearance or Risk Assessment (Completed by a licensed healthcare provider)
- Mandatory School Employee Training
- Possess and maintain current CPR/First Aid training
- Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) licensed, Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, or Associate Marriage Family Therapist (AMFT) licensed, or license eligible, and registered with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences Examiners (BBSE)
- Working towards one of the following licenses: Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage
Family Child Therapist (LMFT), or Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
- Master’s Degree, (attained or in progress)
- Three (3) years supervisory experience
- Valid CA driver’s license and vehicle insurance
Summary of Position:
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of School Based Mental Health Services, or designee, the School-Based Mental Health Clinician provides individual and group counseling, supervision, crisis intervention, and consultation/outreach to students in general and special education programs, including but not limited to, students receiving educationally-related mental health services.
The School-Based Mental Health Clinician consults with teachers, administrators, specialists, parents, outside agencies, and district personnel on behavior management programs and services. School-Based Mental Health Clinician will be assigned as All-Campus working to support GVA Modesto, GVA Salida and GVA Homeschool.
This position will likely have a flexible, split assignment, serving both Gen Ed students with counseling and support, as well as providing direct ERMHS services. Experience with ERMHS is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides support to staff and direct services to students in meeting the social, emotional, and educational needs of students that impede their learning process.
- Provides individual, group, and family therapy services to students with educationally-related mental health services.
- Serves as a member of the Individual Education Program (IEP) Team, actively participates in the IEP process to develop appropriate goals and placement recommendations in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), and assists in the development of positive behavior intervention strategies.
- Implements current federal and state laws, education code, and LEA policies and procedures.
- Assists parents in understanding the unique and individual needs of their child and provides parents with information about child development.
- Reports progress on goals and participates in the development pf new goals in IEP meetings.
- Serves as consultant to staff on the implementation of school-wide intervention programs.
- Plans, coordinates, and/or develops educational interventions, behavior management, transition plans, and counseling mental health programs.
- Participates in the development and implementation of grants.
- Conducts emergency student risk assessments, supports students and family, and communicates with appropriate agencies and school staff.
- Works with the crisis support team to respond to mental health emergencies or crises.
- Works effectively with all segments of the education community, the general public, and diverse cultural populations.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, families, and others.
- Assists with Medi-Cal charting and billing compliance.
- Perform a variety of general clerical tasks using common office programs, and machines such as, Excel, Word, copier, fax, laminator, and binding.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Use effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Work independently or with a group.
- Be alert to safety hazards, and reports any hazards to supervisor.
- Comply with all Great Valley Academy policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Employees in this position must be able/have the ability to:
- See for the purposes monitoring students and reading printed materials.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Stand or work at a desk for extended periods of time.
- Stand, walk, twist, stoop, kneel, and bend over.
- Reach overhead, grasp, and push/pull.
- Lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds at waist height for short distances.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance as representative to the public for the program.
Work Environment:
- Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Employees will come in direct contact with students, parents, school site staff and public.
