With flexible work schedules available, we can accommodate your preferences for morning, day, evening, or weekend shifts. Whether you're an experienced lifeguard or just starting out, there's a spot for you. The candidate must be available to work Monday through Friday from 5:15 AM to 12:00 PM and bi-monthly for Sunday in-service.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Ensure the well-being and security of all individuals within the pool area, prioritizing their health and safety.
  • Familiarize yourself with the pool schedule and assist in setting up or removing lane markers as required.
  • Administer first aid whenever necessary and diligently complete incident/accident report forms for all injuries or incidents on the premises.
  • Perform essential pool maintenance tasks, including regular water testing, chemical adjustments, and keeping records of these activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the area, promptly address any items needing attention, and promptly report repair needs to your supervisor.
  • Extend a warm greeting to all members and participants while also keeping track of attendance records.
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise

  • 16 years of age.
  • Hold a valid lifeguard certification from either the YMCA or the Red Cross, including certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen administration. If you don't have an active certification, the YMCA can provide certification services to meet this requirement.
  • You have excellent swimming skills to perform rescue techniques and maintain endurance.
  • You demonstrate the ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • You have a growth mindset, quickly learn from failure, and value feedback to continuously improve.
  • You display a team player mentality with a positive, service-oriented attitude and the ability to work well with others.
  • You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and actively listen for understanding to effectively convey information.
  • You foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, leveraging people's differences as strengths and promoting a welcoming environment for all.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk and occasionally lift and/or move items including equipment and children. Must be able to remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods of time, hear noises and distinguish distress signals, scan all areas of the pool with clear vision, perform all physical tasks related to instructing and observing participants in proper stroke techniques, communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations. Founded in 1953 and anchored in three Central Texas counties, the Y has served close to 500,000 people and provided more than $30M in financial assistance and program subsidies over the past 10 years.
