GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, the Development Coordinator (DC) has three primary responsibilities: (1) to provide essential administrative and logistical support to GBLA’s Development unit; (2) to assist with prospective research; and (3) to conduct basic research and gather compelling and relevant data in support of funding needs as identified.
The DC will work closely with GBLA’s Director of Grant Acquisitions & Management and play an integral role in furthering the team’s ability to host donor events, fundraising activities, and secure grant funds that support GBLA’s mission of providing high-quality legal services to Kern County’s low-income population.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary administrative support to the Director of Grant Acquisitions & Management (DGAM).
- Works closely with the DGAM in submitting competitive and non-competitive funding proposals, assisting with substantive research, compelling writing, data collection, document compilation, etc.
- In conjunction with the DGAM, maintains master calendar for the Development Team, calendaring relevant due dates, scheduling and keeping appointments, and coordinating meetings with in-house staff and/or outside third parties.
- Assists with prospect research, i.e., identification of potential new donors and/or other funding sources such as private individuals, corporations, governmental entities and/or foundations.
- Gather data and prepare research summaries, prospect lists, and meeting briefs to support relationship development and fundraising activities.
- Assists Director of Donor Development (DDD) with fundraising activities and/or other events as needed, including but not limited to coordinating, planning, soliciting sponsors, creating and tracking event budgets, creation of event materials, and other event logistics.
- Assist with special development projects, including events, donor mailings, campaigns, and appeals.
- Supports overall fundraising administrative efforts by understanding needs and managing details that will help ensure the Development Team’s overall success.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience working in development in an administrative or support capacity, ideally in a non-profit environment. Direct development/fundraising experience a plus.
- Excellent research and writing skills with strong follow-through required.
- Ability to prioritize and work under pressure in a fast-paced, multi-task team environment.
- Ability to self-start, work independently and proactively, as well as under pressure of hard deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail; ability to follow through and timely complete tasks accurately and precisely.
- Willingness to handle unexpected and last-minute needs.
- Must be willing to work on occasion at events or functions in the evenings and/or on weekends.
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, and navigating ambiguity with creative problem-solving approaches to accomplish designated tasks.
- Superb administrative and computer skills, particularly in Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote) with the ability to learn new software quickly. Prior experience with design software (such as Canva), Teams, Zoom, and prospecting databases (such as Grant Watch, Candid Foundation Directory, and Instrumentl) is highly desirable.

Pay: $37.00 - $42.00 per hour
